Does anyone have a child on the infant neocate formula? My daughter saw the GI specialist today and they think she needs this for severe milk allergy (blood in stools, etc..). It is incredibly expensive. Did you order from the internet or through a pharmacy? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

One of my DDs was on Neocate for a few months. I called around to local pharmacies to see who could order it for us. The smallest amount I could order was four cans and they were about $40 for each can - ridiculously expensive. You don't need a prescription for it.

I actually have one unopened can that I'll never use. I'd be happy to send it to you so you can try it out. Has your daughter already tried Neutramigen or Alimentum?

my boys were on it for a few weeks. no perscription...we got it at walgreens. I just had to call ahead so they could get it for me. The boys started prevacid around the same time so since the neocate was so expensive, we took a chance and got off neocate and went on nutramigen. they did great on nutramigen- still expensive but not even close to neocate.

I work for WIC, so I haven't had to use it but I have clients who have. They usually have to go through the pharmacy to get it, they don't need an RX they just ask for it at the pharmacy.

Make sure they check to see if they can get WIC. They will provide 9 cans per month if they qualify, which is huge since I have heard that this stuff can cost more than $50 a can. Hope that helps!

I agree. Check with WIC. Also my oldest was on it because he had a milk allergy and none of the other formulas worked for him. We got ours covered by our insurance however, and it was sent to us my UPS in cases once a month. If you have insurance or Medicaid, they most likely will cover it if you have your pedi or specialist fill out the forms necessary to get prescription formula coverage. Look into that as well because as Angel said its very expensive. It was $40 a small can 4 years ago so I can imagine the cost now.

my boys are on Neocate. We have tried all of them Enfimil, Prosobe Soy, Neutramagin and Alamentum. We get the Neocate delivered to us because it is covered through our insurence. If your insurence wont pay for it you should ask your dr to call the ins company and tell them that they HAVE TO BE ON IT. Good luck
