Good afternoon! I am hoping to find some advice from all you experienced mommies on when to schedule my C-section. I just had an appointment with my peri and he said that our little girls are big and healthy (they were both measuring 5 lbs 4 oz), which was wonderful to hear. I was really hoping for a VB, but Baby B is breech, so he told me I should schedule a C-section around 36 weeks. I have an appointment with my OB tomorrow and last time I saw him he said we would schedule a C-section (if needed) around 37 weeks. Now I am just confused!

I am currently 34 weeks 3 days and feel miserable, but know that I need to keep these babies in until 36 weeks. I am just wondering if I should push for a date closer to 36 weeks or 37 weeks? Any advice?

Thanks so much for your time!

I would play it by ear, if you can.. your babies still have time to flip... my baby A was head down for most of my pg but flipped breech at around 34 weeks. Good luck- you're almost there!! :)

Hey.... I pregnant 36 weeks and 4 days and I scheduled my c section about 2 weeks ago. Im having them literally a week from today which will make me 37w and 4d. I dont know that they would do it around 36 weeks unless there is a problem. They try to push for the 38th week at least. My dr measured me 2 weeks ago and I was measured 40 weeks so she said they would be okay to come out at 37 weeks. Baby a is head down and baby b is breech .... I wanted a vaginal birth but I am sooo tired of being pregnant and just want to get them out that I opted to do the c section so I know when they are coming. AND I want to have my tubes tied so Im tryin to do everything in one shot ya know. Hope that helps GOOD LUCK!!!

Congrats on some great weights! My OB will not schedule a c-section before 37 weeks unless it is medically necessary. Although, she does think that if they had to be born at 36 weeks they would be fine. Will your OB not deliver a breech baby B? Mine said as long as long as Baby A's size was greater than or equal to baby B that a VB would be possible. I've heard of a lot of OB's that will do this, but if it is not something that yours has experience with you probably wouldn't want to push it. Unfortunately, my Baby A is breech, so I think I'll be getting a c-section too. Good Luck!

My ob originally said 39 wks for an elective c/s, but just 2 weeks ago we finally set a date, 37 wks 5 days or march 3rd. The 37/38 wk mark is the safest time, gives them the best shot of not spending any NICU time but not so long that the placenta's risk detaching or deteriorating. While I admit I wish it was sooner I know it's the best for the babies! :)

Thank you all for your advice. I had my OB appointment this morning and it sounds like we are going to schedule around 37 weeks. We'll keep you posted!

    Thanks again!

I am still at 32 weeks and facing a c-section with Baby A breech (even though I want VB) but I wanted to comment because I noticed you said you were really hoping for a vaginal birth and your Baby A is vertex. Many OBs are perfectly comfortable delivering vaginally as long as Baby A is vertex. Others are less comfortable doing anything other than c-section if both babies are not turned. Sometimes they will not delve deep enough without you coming forward to say how much your ideal birth experience means to you (like having a VB). If you are totally in love with your doctor that is great, but also know that you can ask for a referral for someone who will deliver vaginally with Baby A vertex and Baby B in another position - it is very common. Just wanted to mention it if you were very passionate about that, that your doctor most likely knows colleagues who he/she could recommend. That being said, regarding timing, my doctor said we'd schedule c-section as close to 38 weeks as possible. :)

My OB would not let twin pregnancies go past 38 weeks. So my c-section was scheduled for 38 weeks and 1 day (so I could have the dr I wanted). I asked about having it earlier (because I was so uncomfortable) but my dr told me it was best to keep them in as long as possible. I had a c-section due to the position of the babies also. If I would have gone into labor earlier than that, they would have just done a c-section at that time.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

I'm glad that they are going to schedule you closer to 37 weeks. My OB wouldn't schedule me for earlier than 38 weeks with the twins and 39 with my singleton. (I ended up going at 37+ weeks). The longer you can keep them in there, the better ( I do know that there are 36 weekers who have had NICU time). Best of luck! You are getting so close!!

My doctor wanted 39 weeks because as some previous posters have already stated... the longer they bake the better. I apparently was in labor when I went in for my scheduled c-section (A was breech). I don't think I would have made it much longer.

Congrats on making it so far! I really wanted to do what was best for the babies, but was hoping for a vaginal delivery. At 34 weeks they were both head down. At 35, Baby B turned breech. My doctor was still willing to do vaginal if I wanted as long as I understood that I could still end up with a C if anything went wrong. Then at 36 weeks he turned back around. So you never know, you might just get lucky!

I am glad to hear that you are scheduling closer to the 37w mark. My peri wouldn't do anything elective before 37w and they were hesitant to let anyone go beyond 38w. I was induced at 37w0d for health reasons (despite my pleas to wait a little longer :) Yes, I know I was crazy). Neither spent any time in the NICU and came home with us 2 days later. Good luck!

My two were born at 36 weeks and still had Special care time of 10 days (a step down from Nicu) mostly for the one twin, but we kept them both in together. Each day inside you is 3 days out of NICU. Good work mommy !!
