so i posted a question earlier about my babies not getting enough sleep. they are 7 weeks old and i am focusing on getting them to sleep frequently. they now are MUCH happier babies when they are awake. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!

i have another question. when you are by yourself with them, how do you get them both to sleep when they are both tired but awake? i find it hard to get them asleep when they are both awake. i rock them one at a time but when one starts to cry, they both cry. it can be very dificult when i am by myself during the day. right now by husband is gone for 2 weeks on training so i am by myself alot right now and I just feel like they are getting back to not sleeping enough.

fortunately, cartoons keep my toddler busy while i'm trying to rock them! [IMG]

thank you for your help and advice.

I think it is fantastic that you take the time to bond and rock your babies. I never rocked my twins...it was too hard. When they were infants and I had help, I'd rock or walk them to sleep. When my help left, they learned to fall asleep on their own. I put themin their cribs, turn on a noise maker, give them their blanket/taggies and walk out of the room. It only took 1 day of REAL crying and then just a few minutes and they are both asleep. Here is something funny: One twins cries at naptime for 1-2 minutes and the other doesn't cry at naps but at bedtime while the nap-cryer doesn't cry at bedtime. That sounds confusing - hope you figured it out! So..my advise is to let them fall asleep by themselves in their cribs.

do they take a binky? My daughter will fall asleep on her own - even wide awake...as long as the lights are off and she has her binky she'll lay in the crib and when she's ready to fall asleep she curls up on her side and dozes off - my son I have to rock to sleep but I have the special "sleeper hold" my DH calls it that I generally have him to sleep in a few minutes...although if DH is dressing my son I will rock my daughter for a few minutes of bonding, but she's really good at falling asleep on her own now...

they do take binkies but they can't hold them in on their own yet.

This thread might help. also if you have/can buy a swing you can use that as your "assistant". Rock one baby while the other is in the swing. I generally feel that CIO is best for babies over 6 months of age, but their are always exceptions to that. [IMG]

    Good luck!

When my boys go down for their naps, they still cry a bit, so usually I let them cry for about 3-4 minutes without their soothers, then go in and put their soothers in their mouths. This usually starts to put them to sleep. If they haven't fallen asleep, then I let them cry again since their soothers often fall out. If they don't fall asleep after putting the soother in a second time, I choose the one that is closest to falling asleep and hold his head and the soother in his mouth until he falls asleep then I move to the other one. This is a good way to get them used to the other one crying!
It usually works! I have on occasion had them nap in different rooms, but that is usually when one has gone to sleep sooner than the other one!
I have never really rocked them to sleep as I found that the night wakings began when I cuddled too much before sleep time!
