I mainly hang out in expecting forum as i am 29 weeks pregnant. My sister on the other hand has a daughter that will be 14months at the end of August. She is doing such an amazing job at raising her daughter, she is 22 and most of the time a single mom as her fiance drives a truck and is gone quite often. She has recently returned to work so she has been managing alot!

The advice is for teething. My neice has been teething since 5 months old...normally baby oragel or ambosol works and on the really fussy days, some baby tylenol. When she is teething it always seems to be 2 teeth at once....well she already has 12 teeth and in currently teething again...she is gettin all 4 eyeteeth at the same time!!! As a result, she is extremely fussy, having tempertantrums constantly and she is not sleeping. She may sleep for a couple of hours and then wakes up screaming. My sister took her to the doctors just to make sure that there was nothing else that could be causing pain, and she got a clean bill of health!!!!

My sister is getting very run down and starting to feel really stressed....she has said several times that she thinks her daughter hates her :( Our entire family is helping her where we can, letting her nap, taking her daughter for a few hours to give her a bit of a break and she is greatful for all of that, but my question is does anyone have any tips/suggestions for helping a toddler get through a rough stage of teething???? These are things that have been tried: baby ambasol, a frozen soother designed for teething, and baby tylenol....nothing seems to be working....any advice that i can pass on to her would be great!!!!!

Thank you all so much :)

First of give your sister :hug99: I don't have much advice other than to try ibprophen instead of tylenol it can be a little stronger. The only other thing and I cna't belive I'm going to say this is to try rubbing Jim Beam  on her gums! My mother did it for me and DH started doing it for twins cause they were really fussy when teathing and it helped a lot! (dont' use a lot just dip your finger in and rub it where it feels swollen.. Sorry i'm not much help

Hylands Teething Tablets worked MAGIC on my boys! My kids get teeth VERY early and always 2 at a time as well, I swear within 10 minutes my boys were calmer. It was amazing!

    :hug99: for your sis!

We used both the ibuprofen and the hyland's teething tablets. My friend used the Hyland's colic tablets instead.

Lots of hugs and kisses worked for me. That, and some distracting activities. My son also loved those biter biscuits when he was teething. :)

My multiples get teeth in multiples as well. Ibuprofen works better in my opinion- it works better for the swelling as well as for the pain. It is a rough rough time.
My only other suggestion- are you sure she does not have reflux? I know she got a clean bill of health, but something as ongoing for some long as this, you might want to look at other possibilities. Teething does hurt them, but even Tylonel should give her a bit of a reprieve. Reflux can make a child cranky, cause her not to sleep, all of hte symptoms you mentioned. You could start with a Tums- we use the instant dissolve kind. Usually, we try this before we go to the Zantac (they used to be on Prevacid). Especially in the evening, when they are cranky, this will often help them. (you could give her up to one half a tablet a day, better to give a quarter in the am and in the pm. the quick dissolve tablets snap into quarters easily.
Oh, the other thing we do at night is leave a sippy cup of water in their cribs. For some reason, all three of my girls get thirsty at night. When I go up after they twins are screaming after being put to bed, usually i find that i forgot to fill their cups.

If the tums does not help- have her ask her doctor to just try the zantac for a week. it might help. otherwise...teething is just ridiculous for babies, and thank goodness they will not remember it when they are older!

Both of my girls cut two teeth at a time until their molers which they cut all four at once. It was a nightmare. However, they had 12 teeth by the time they were a year old. We lived on hylands teething tablets. We used tylenol when the pain seemed really bad, but hylands really calmed them down quickly. Plus, it's all natural so I felt really good about giving it to them.

Put a wet washcloth in the freezer (leaving the ends dry) and then let the baby chew on it. They seem to like the cold and it's not too cold and satisfies the chewing urge. Otherwise, tylenol for a few days!!

We are pretty sure it is not reflux as she does sleep through the night most of the time...it has just been the last week that she has been incredibly miserable...that is why we think it is the 4 teeth coming in that is causing the problems...I found out yesterday was a bit of a better day for them so hopefully, she will be back to her normal busy toddler self!!!!

Everyone, thank you so much for your advice and i will be passing it on to her :)
