Need Prayers and Good Thoughts

Hey ladies!

I posted on the Health board about our issue with Caleb's head. Basically, he has an indention in the middle of his forehead right at the hairline that is getting more and more pronounced with time. It's formed in a way that makes it look like he has two knots on either side. We didn't notice it until he was about 5 months and are now finding that as his head grows, it's getting more noticable. I met with the company here in Houston that does the Doc Bands for an evaluation. He didn;t take measurements but just by looking and feeling, he felt that a helmet was not something that would benefit him and referred me to the only pediatric craniofacial surgeon in Houston. Whatever if anything needs to be done, this is the person that will know. We're really blessed to have gotten the appointment so quickly and I know I'm doing the right thing by going to get his opinion, but I am just so torn about what it is I want to hear at this appointmnet tomorrow. It will be one of three things: he does in fact need a helmet, he needs surgery, or there's nothing they can do. Neither of these sound like "good news" to me unless he can assure me that if they do nothing, that his head will end up being normal on its own. If they say that surgery is the only thing that will fix it and that it's on;y a cosmetic issue, I don't know that I feel cofortable going through that just to say he has a perfect head. DH and I completely disagree on the issue. He says that I will feel awful if I do nothing and when he's a teenager with a mishapen head, he will blame us for not doing anything about it. I understand his view, but surgery is such a scary thing for someone so tiny and the fact that he has a heart murmur makes me even more terrified. I just don't know what to do. DH and I went out for our anniversary last night and I ended up bawling my eyes out at the restaurant while we were discussing it. Just please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Most people say they don't notice it so I attached a picture that I took to show the doctor so you guys won't think I'm crazy. It's much more evident from certain angles.

I am so sorry, it is heartbreaking to see your children hurt or imagine that something you do will make them hurt. I really hope you hear something reassuring at this appointment. I will be thinking of you and saying a prayer. Keep us posted.

PS-maybe it is just me but the picture doesnt look as bad as I imagined from your post, your baby is beautiful, it is hardly even noticable after you see those gorgeous eyes!

I so hope the news is that it will go away naturally as he grows....I see it in the picture, but honestly, it doesn't seem that pronounced or odd -- but of course, I'm not seeing him in person every day.

Kevan had a very funny-looking large bump on the back of his head as a newborn, to the point where it would push his chin toward his chest when he was lying in the bouncy -- made feeding him even harder. I fretted a lot, but the doctor said it was just the shape of his head -- thankfully, it did round out eventually.

You will all definitely be I my thoughts and prayers! :hug99: I think we can worry ourselves to death about all of the "what ifs" but for right now you don't have all the information. So all you can do is pray for the best outcome and the insight to know what to do based on the information you recieve. Your boys are soooo precious and whatever needs to be done you can get through it. Good luck and I hope you get some answers.

:hug99: Poor mama! Caleb is sure giving you a run for your money. If it's not one thing it's another.

I hope you can get some good answers and come to a decision you can make peace with. It's great that you're seeing such a good dr. And I second the pps that Caleb does NOT look like an alien or anything - even in the picture you posted a link to, I wouldn't have noticed the head shape without you pointing it out.

This must be so tough on you and I'm sending lots of prayers your way. I'm also in Houston ... it's really a blessing to have access to such wonderful medical care here. Please keep us updated on adorable Little Caleb.

i hope you find good news... houston has amazing doctors. You should be in good hands. if it is cosmetic you will probably have to wait anyways due to head growth. Hopefully everything is fine and that will not be a concern. best wishes
