Our new schedule (one nap) means that morning snack is usually "on the go". Sometimes we're lucky enough to stop in coffee shops, the little Target eating area, etc at snack time, but that doesn't happen every time. So, I've been giving them snack in the stroller.

Yesterday they had animal crackers and my stroller looked like it was hit by a goo-tornado. <_< Just imagine the reach radius on a curious 15-month old...everything within that zone was covered in animal cracker sludge. This isn't the first time it's happened (I now keep a dust buster in the back of my car for quick stroller detail).

On the go snacks our guys eat (they're picky so I usually keep everything in the diaper bag and let them decide what they want):

    Goldfish
    Granola Bars
    Nutrigrain bars
'Fruit to go bars' (pureed fruit - kind of like a fruit roll up but no sugar)
    Yogurt covered pretzels
    Beechnut banana cookies
    Gerber dried fruit
    Cheerios

How about Cheerios, Goldfish, or puffs in a Snack Trap? Also, string cheese would work well.

They make these Graham cracker sticks and they aren't to messy. My girls love them.

Our standbys, some of which your kids may be too young for, are:

    raisins
    dried blueberries
    string cheese
    apple slices
    bananas
    goldfish crackers
whole wheat pretzel sticks (Trader Joe's makes the best)
nuts (almonds, peanuts, and cashews are the favorites)

first of all, if you haven't already invested in snack cups...it's a must. They are AWESOME!! Here's the link if you are not sure what they are

It deffinately helps to have less mess but even with the snack cups, certain things are more messy than others. From experience, I find the following to be the least messy

    little goldfish
    puffs
    cheerios
    teddy grahams
the Gerber Graduates for Toddlers crackers
    Gerber Toddler dried fruit snack

Although, they often tend to drop quite a few in their seat, they don't seem to crumble so clean up is just a sweep of the food and into the garbage or the parking lot (i figure the birds will appreciate the snack).

I'm glad I am not the only one that shakes out the stroller to 'feed the birds' :p ....

We use SnackTraps from ToysRus and usually they have

    goldfish
    Cheerios
    Puffs
    string cheese
    graham cracker
    dried fruit
    Kix

    Some of our snacks are:

    goldfish
    club cracker sticks
    graham cracker sticks
Keebler graham bug bites (this is their new favorite snack)
    cheerios
    kix
    string cheese

    Sorry to repeat a lot.

Great ideas...I don't know why I go brain dead sometimes with this kind of stuff...just seems easy to get in a rut.

I have seen the snack traps. I haven't bothered b/c I think I would just end up losing them (someone chucking one and me not noticing then retracing our steps all around the store in vain to find it). The snack trays on our stroller seem to be doing fine.

Just curious, what do folks find easier: loading up each day's items in the diaper bag before going out, or keeping a stash of certain staples in the car at all times.

Hi there! I usually pack the things I want to bring when I go, but do have a few back-ups I leave in the car: cherrios and the Toddler crackers mentioned in the pp. We purchased the snack traps at BRU just before our road trip, but I guess the girls aren't quite old enough for them. They just got a kick out of pulling the cherrios out and tossing them around. My all-time favorite no mess snack is cherrios and cut up cubes of cheese...a pain because you have to keep them cold, but they love too much to toss. I like the dust buster in the car idea. I also fed the birds for the first time today!

My kids figured out the lids on the snack traps almost immediately. They had a great time pushing the flaps in and shaking the contents out. It ended up creating more of a mess, so I tossed them. What eventually worked for us... ziploc bags. I never give them a plastic bag unless I'm right there with them. When I do, I fill it with bite-sized snacks... nothing that requires a second bite because that's usually where the mess starts for us. I like to make a "trail mix" of sorts... goldfish, cheerios, chex, raisins, dried cranberries, nuts, etc. I fill a plastic bag and they eat from the bag. Of course, they could shake the whole bag out, but they never do. I guess the snack traps were more of a challenge and they enjoyed the game :)

I like to reload my snacks every day. I do keep a few bottles of water and some individual bags of goldfish and pretzels in the car for "emergencies." However, every night, I clean my diaper bag out and put new snacks in for the next day.

I always have some kind of snack in my bag (like the single serving bags of goldfish crackers, granola bars, box of raisins). But I usually do throw in something else if I know we will definitely NEED a snack and that we will be out for awhile.

And we use our snack trays on our strollers, but I still LOVE the Snack Trap. We use them all the time still.
