I have 2 Evenflo Tribute carseats now that only hold up to forty lbs...They werent the ones I wanted (I dint register for those) but my sister bought them, and since she had 3 kids, I trusted them. They are okay, but I dont feel they are that safe...I have seen and read so many horror stories about poor car seats....and they just seem flimsy to me. I thought maybe Im just nuts, so I kept them in them.

Not only that but they are about 7lbs away from the forty lb limit. I have read some stories about children dying in lap belt car seats when they malfunctioned in accidents (one of them from a link posted on here)...

I would love some advice on what you guys use for the 100 lb limits. I would love any recommedations for the 5 point harness usage in older kids. (40 lbs plus)...I know the Britax Marathon is the best...and I am of course willing to pay the price, but is there anything else you guys use?

    Any info would be great.

    Thanks!!

I have heard that the Evenflo Triumph are rated high and are reasonably priced. We use the Britax Marathon though. I have three of them for my three kiddos. I really like my Britax and feel that I have done what I can to make sure my kids are in the safest seat possible for me. It was a stretch for our budget, but on the other hand, can you put a price on your peace of mind concerning your child's safety?

We just got the Sunshine Kids Radian carseats. I love them! They go up to 65 lbs (they also have an 80 lb version) with a 5 pt. harness and have a great safety rating. Also, you can fit 3 across the back seat b/c they are only 17" wide! So I will be able to have all 3 kids in my wagon and not need a minivan ;)

I also would like to upgrade to car seats that usea harness past 40 lbs. I'm looking into the Safety 1st Apex 65 car seat. The reviews on it are pretty good (with a few complaints) but it's so much cheaper than the Britax. The harness works up to 65 lbs. and then it converts into a regular booster. I sure would like to see one before buying it online but I don't think anyone has it on display.

    Sue,

I have been looking at that one as well. I actually dont mind paying top dollar for good carseats if it means thier lives, but I wanted to see if there was an alternative with the same safety as the Britax without paying 269 a pop.

I have heard good things about it actually...Ill let you guys know what I choose...its a hard decision. It will be a long time they are in these seats, so I want them to be good quality as well as the most important, safe!!

i thnk I decided to go with the apex. Being a one income household Its good to have an alternative to the Britax with very similar saftey features.

If it stinks, I can still take it back and get the Britax!

Sue, if you get it off that website, look at the cupon codes...it saves more money.

    Thanks for the suggestions!!

Mandy, thanks for that info. If you get it, let me know how you like it. I'll probably be cramming my guys into their Britax Roundabouts for another 2-3 months until they truly hit the 40 lb. limit. I need to check out the width of the Apex to make sure I can still fit an infant seat between two of them in my Sienna. I think it's wider than the Britax. Good luck!
