I was thinking of doing a theme for the girls first birthday party, but I have no idea what! I don't really want to do a cartoon character (no Dora, Elmo or Disney Princesses).

Does anyone have any creative - but simple - ideas?

Go to a party city or somewhere that sells plates and cups for partys. They have some theme 1st Bday sets that are cute. I know they have pooh bear, and Im sure they have other characters. That way you can get a theme with out to much work. There are a few places online as well.

We just went to my niece's first birthday party. Her birthday was around Valentine's Day, so my SIL did a Valentine's themed party. It was really cute. She got these cute little favor bags in the Target dollar bin and put all kinds of Valentine's stickers, pencils, cookies, etc. things like that in the bag. She also used Valentine's decorations. It was really cute.

For my boys (I know I'm a freak they are only 4.5 months old and I am already planning their first B-day party) I am going to do a costume party snce they were born in October. That way all their little friends and cousins can wear their Halloween costumes to their party. I am planning to use Halloweeny decorations. I think it will be really fun.

A friend of mine did a Cinco de Mayo theme because her son's birthday is on May 5. She called it Cinco de Maxo (his name is Max).

Are their any holidays around your babies' birthday that you could feed off of. I don't know, just a thought. It makes finding decorations and stuff so much easier.

My twins are only 7 weeks old and I worry about their 1st birthday party. I have no idea how we will have party since their birthday is 12/26. I kind of feel like with the rush of the holidays, their birthday will be overlooked. DH says we should celebrate it Christmas night when we have the whole family there but I feel like their "big" day should be something seperate entirely. Sigh...who knows?

Memorial Day is May 26 this year and their birthday is the 30th. I will be having their party on Saturday the 31st, so maybe I could do a red, white and blue theme? It would be really easy to use flag decorations and have a cook-out.

    Thanks for the holiday idea!!

Great idea! And it will probably be less expensive to get everything since its not birthday-specific (geez some of those 'birthday' websites can be expensive!). I'm ordering stuff from Oriental trading for the girls' first birthday and its not expensive at all. Have fun with it! -Leighann

My twinnies will turn 1 on Easter this year, but we're having a party for them the day before. I'm doing a rubber ducky theme because a friend's sister did it and I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT! And I thought it's perfect for boy/girl--nice and gender neutral. I'm going to get blue/yellow plastic table clothes at the dollar store, as well as colored utensils. I've ordered happy birthday rubber duckies, ducky sticky notes, ducky treat bags and a ducky pinata from Oriental Trading (I caught a free shipping deal). I wanted to do some favors for the adults, too, so I'm going to make little yellow ducky chocolates out of a wilton mold and put them in little bags with marshmallows (to represent bubbles!). I'm going to make the cake...simple, just blue frosting and white fondant rolled into different sized balls to make bubbles, and a couple rubber duckies on top. Also going to get some little pails and put chex mix in them and label them "Duck Feed", and maybe some cheese and "quackers"! I got most of these ideas by googling rubber ducky birthday party....the ducky chocolates was my original idea though! =) I'm officially obsessed with it now that there's a little over a month left to go!!!

Our twins share a birthday, and I've been thinking about their 1st party lately too. I think we are going to do a carnival theme. We have a cul de sac and neighborhood with lots of kids including 9 kids within 8 months (even another set of b/g twins) within one block of us! We are going to do a dunk tank, a few games, cotton candy machine and our friends are bringing their pony to give rides around the cul de sac! I'm so excited. Really, the kids won't remember a thing, so this is soooo much more for me and DH than the kids. This is my "We survived the 1st year party!!!"

Good Luck!! Time flies, doesn't it?
