I didnt add the med to a bottle because if they dont finish it they dont get all the meds. I just used a syringe and squirted it between their gum and cheek.

Same here. Also, some meds work better when they are given an x-amount of time before a feeding. I don't recall on the Zantac.

i wouldn't add it to a bottle. i always measured the amount in a syringe and squirted it into a bottle nipple and let them suck it out of that. it worked way better than just squirting it into their mouths. it tastes minty, so that is a strange flavor for a baby...

I read on this site to give the meds on an empty stomach and that made a huge difference for us. I gave it first thing in the am and later in the day just before a bottle. We used Zantac.

Yep - I think it is 30 mins or so before a feeding which for us was a bit tricky since they were never on a set schedule, but you do the best you can. It seemed to work best for us to use the nipple until recently and now we just use a syringe as he resists the nipple too much.

Also one thing that always bothered me was that he would sometimes puke shortly after giving him the medication :( so now you are left with - did he just throw up everything I just gave him or not? I would sometimes give him a tiny amount more, our ped told us it wasnt really something you could OD them on, but best to check with your ped on that issue, if it becomes a problem for you.

Adding it to the bottle might also affect how much they eat. If their bottle tastes bad, they might not want to drink it. The babies will get used to the taste.

That is what my pharmacist told me to do...on an empty tummy before they eat...

My pedi GI said you an add antacids (maalox or whatever) to a bottle. But PPI's like prevacid and prilosec should be given on an empty stomache 30 mins before eating. Dont remember much about zantac...but I think we just gave it 10 mins or so before a bottle. But we never added any meds to a bottle.
