Only 16 weeks pregnant, swelling started week 15, got awful at one of my best friend's funeral Thursday, been bad ever since... My ankles and feet are stinging, too.

Someone recommended good support/compression pantyhose for the swelling.

Does anyone know where I can get some? I need to wear them for work anyway, hoping they are available online...

    Thanks everyone!

Also, can someone tell me the difference between compression and support panthose? Thanks!

Compression pantyhose are a lot "stronger" so to speak. They have people in the hospital and on bedrest wear them often to prevent bloodclots and/or swelling due to poor circulation or lack of movement. You are supposed to put them on prior to getting out of bed in the AM (before the swelling can start) and boy is that a chore :) Their strength is measured in mmHg's and the higher the number the better they will work. The best you can get are by prescription. You have you MD write a script and then go into a medical supply store to be fitted. You can buy OTC through stores like jasco uniforms, lydias uniforms, and allheart online but since you are pregnant you will probably need the ones that go over your belly and not the knee highs. I would look on these sites and see if they have any pregnancy sized full compression pantyhose. I did a quick search for pregnancy compression hose and several stores including this one came up support hose store. I hope this is helpful. After wearing the prescription support hose while working with my last pregnancy, my legs/ankles felt so different. I had no swelling and aching. Good luck and let me know how it works out.

Thank you so much! My OB is acting like it is no big deal, but I am SO uncomfortable!

Will your OB not give you any? My OB told me she could get me some if I wanted them, but luckily my mom had a pair from a previous hospitalization. Your hospital just might sell you some too, I'd at least check if you're finding them a bit pricey online.

No, my OB won't. But, I can ask the perinatologist when I see him- which is over a week away :( I can't believe almost $100 plus for ONE PAIR, eep!

I bought these from Baby Center when I was pg. I was awful swollen from my thighs down. I never ended up using them because my OB saw how awful my legs looked and ordered me on bed rest. I kept my feet elevated above my chest for 2 days and the swelling reduced considerably. Other things my OB suggested were drinking tons of water, having a small amount of caffeine daily and swimming. (My legs and feet were so bad I could barely stand because my ankles wouldn't form a 90 degree angle with my legs and I couldn't move my toes. I also had pitting edema up to my thighs.)

These were only $25, but I don't know how well they work since I never used them.

well, i can tell you from experience that you may not want to wear Teds if you are swelling b/c it will just force the swelling to the point of least resistance. i wore them because my bood pressure was dropping alot when i would walk (at around 20-25 weeks on) because the blood was pooling in my legs and i was afraid i'd get vericose veins. after delivery my legs swelled up like the elephant man so i was like cool i'll just put on the teds - nooooo, it was bad. the stockings are real tight around the ankles and a bit looser above so my ankles would be semi normal and then my legs were huge right above. just try to limit salt intake, put your legs up constantly and drink lots of water -i know counterintuitive - if you must try it to see for yourself, ask your OB to write you a perscription or see if they can give some to you because they can get real pricey but insurance will cover it if you have a perscription. good luck1
