Right now s just figured out how to stand in his crib. He is screaming. I have gone in twice laid him down and he is up before I even leave. advice????????? It is going to be a long night. They usually go to sleep on their own.

OH I feel for you. First off, this is a phase, and for me it took anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks, both were different. I remember just going in every once in a while and not making eye contact, but laying them back down and saying "night, Night". They eventually got it, or got tired trying. Hang in there! It will pass.

When DS started to stand in his crib, I just let him stand. He was just getting his balance and would fall and hit his head for about two days and then the novelty wore off. DS and DD both stand in the cribs and put themselves down to sleep, it just takes a little longer then before. So, basically I have no real advice, but encouragment in that this too shall pass :) Probablly sooner then you would expect.

Well he is slepeing now. I ended up going in, laying him down, and rubbing his back until he fell asleep. I DO NOT want to make that a habit though!!! So if he gets up tonight and stands, should I go in and lay him down or let him cry until he goes down on his own. Myabe since this is new for him he will need me to help him down (can you say sucker! :p )

If it is not one thing, it is another!!!

I found when they began doing that they only thing you could do was keep going in and reinforcing to them how to plop to the tush and lay back down. Good Luck when that phase hit us it was a few rough nights. :hug99:

That is such a frustrating phase! The only advice I have is to teach him to fall on his tookus during the day and limit the amount of times you "rescue" him at night.

It's a phase, and it lasted about 3 days at our house. A hard 3 days, but when it's new they like to do it...they just need to figure out how to get down. :)

He is probably so proud of his new skill!!! Not so exciting for mom.
Spend lots of time during the day working on sitting down from standing either in the crib ( help him put his hands on the bars instead of the top rail) or table to chair.
Like PP said, a few days and he will get himself down and back to sleep.
    Good luck

Oh the joys of all the firsts. When Alex first did this, I went in and laid him down for 2 days, then he had to stand and cry. That only lasted one day. Nicky is a whole other story. He'll stand and cry for an hour and a half until I give up and hold him for 5 minutes to sleep.

I let Micah "teach" them how to "fall" I let them, individually, play in the crib when they learned to stand and had Micah go in with them...he entertained by making funny faces and getting them to laugh...he would play with their hands and hold them(hands) just right so that they would fall back onto their tush...since they were in play mode they thought it was funny and they picked up the "get back down" skill within the first day.

I told Micah how he had taught them something really important he was so proud.

Speaking from experience with my older DD, just leave him. If he can get up, he can get down. If you start going in there to help him, he'll figure out pretty quick that it's a good way to get you in there any time he wants. He'll be over the standing thing within a few days (even though it seems like forever right now!).

    Good luck,

    Mellie
