Our snug rides already hit the back of the front seats and limit how far back we can slide them, so that DH can't drive the car anymore and anyone in the passenger seat has to sit bolt upright. Has anyone found a convertible seat that fits well in the rear-facing position?

I guess I could deal with some limitation, but it would be nice to take trips all together!

I don't have any specific suggestions but you know you can go to Babies R Us and take the floor models out to your car to test fit them, right? That's what I'd do! Good luck!

I drive an Audi A6 Wagon and we have three Radian 65s in the backseat of my car. Elizabeth's is rear facing behind the passenger seat and I can still sit there comfortably. DH can't though (he's 6'5").

    We have Britax Roundabouts.

We also had the same issue with our snugrides....we had to scoot our front seats up further than we would have liked because otherwise they hit the car seats. The Roundabouts probably gave us an extra six inches when rear facing, so we were able to scoot our front seats back to where we wanted them, and still had a couple of inches to spare without hitting the car seats.

The only downside to the Roundabouts is they don't last as long as some other seats (up to 40 pounds only) but we thought it was worth it to get the space we needed.

I LOVE my subaru but man, it was not built for babies/toddlers booster seat! I would look at the Radian. If I remember correctly they weight goes pretty high. We have a Baja and none of the other higher weight chairs would fit. Well, not with the kids actually in them and even the idea of another person was laughable1

Ditto. Britax roundabouts fit much better in my four-door Honda Accord than the snugrides did, especially once they were forward facing. It is a bit tight (I am 5'11) but definitely doable, and I think the subaru has more space than my Honda.
They were rear-facing for about 6 months and I didn't have any trouble.

Actually, we decided not to get the Marathons because they were bigger and probably would not have fit in my Honda, so I agree with PP, and really, it was our only choice if we wanted a Britax seat without buying a new car (we are moving and selling the car next year).

We have a Legacy, which I assume is about the same size as an Outback. We used Britax Marathon & Roundabout (one of each). They did fit rear-facing, though DH and I are not very tall (I'm 5'4", he's 5'7"). The convertible seats were better than the SnugRides in that regard.

Ditto again on the Britax Roundabouts. I had a Subaru Forester and they were the only convertibles that worked in the back seat. The Snugrides were also a tight fit. Check out carseatdata.org. They have a database that allows you to search for carseat that fit the make and model of your car.
