Our boys have started to be able to break out of their swaddles. From what I am reading, mine atern't the only to do this at 3 months. Should we stop swaddling or buy better swaddling devices? I am worried to stop it all together because they sleep really well when wrapped tight. I am not working right now (my position with my company was eliminated), so is now a good time to stop swaddling since I do not have to worry about getting a whole lot of sleep at night?

Also, right now I have my LO's in the same crib, but one is starting to move around quite a bit, so is it time to move them?

Also (I think this is the last question), my walked in this morning to find one of them with their arm sticking out the front of the crib. I took the bumper pad off when they started to be able to move. (I walked in one and one of their faces was right up against it, I immediately removed it!) Is this just something that happens or do I need to do something to prevent it?

    Thanks everyone for your advice!

[I think 3 months is when I stopped swaddling. My twins slept really well with them too and I didn't want to stop but decided to b/c I was going to go back to work soon as well. They actually did good without the swaddles, I don't think there was much of an adjustment. Maybe a little bit more with my son, he loves to be cuddled whereas my daughter doesn't as much. 3 months is also when I put them in their separate cribs. I figured since I was taking them out of their swaddles then they'd wake up easier by little things that didn't bother them before, like when one twin moves around or bumps into them. Again, there was little reaction to the move. As far as the bumpers, are they both moving their heads around good? My husband wanted me to get rid of the bumpers b/c of fear of them suffocating and I agreed but also worried about them hitting their heads or arms sticking out. Finally I got rid of them but then Juliana woke up each night because she'd bump her head against the crib- actually I can't say for sure thats what happened, I just assumed since she doesn't usually wake up. So then we put them back in. I think they are safe if they can move their heads real good, plus if you put them in 2 different cribs they'll have more room and probably wont be right up against the bumpers. Good luck!

We stopped swaddling once they started breaking out of them and moving around more which was around 3 months.

If they arent waking each other up then I would say leave them in the same crib.

Mine still have their bumpers in. I have never had a problem with them. They slept right up in the corner of the crib each night and now use them as pillows and foot props.

Jeez I hate to admit it but we swaddled untl 7-8m at least, ya they could break out but it was just enough to calm them down before bed and that first while in bed.

we put them in different cribs around 3m because we had to raise the head of the crib due to reflux or else I wouldn't have split them up so early. Some people keep them together for quite awhile like 18m+.

We didn't use bumpers I was afraid of suffication and poor air flow.

I am visiting this board from the Expecting Multiples board.

With my son we used the Breathable Baby Mesh Bumpers:

    http://www.breathablebaby.com/

They are great - kept my sons arms and legs in the crib, and they collapse if he was to try to climb out. He still has them on the crib and he is almost 2 years old.

We bought them from Walmart for about $25.

If your babies are not waking each other up, then letting them sleep in the same crib shouldn't hurt them, but I would change out the bumpers to be safe. I too have the breathable bumpers installed and they definitely have helped since I've found my boys with their faces smooshed up against the border sometimes. As far as swaddling goes, I would swaddle mine to go to bed and let them fight their way out if they want it that badly. It never seemed to wake them up letting them do that. If they do wake up crying and upset, there are some pre-made swaddles at Babies-R-Us that you can get that just Velcro together making it harder for them to get out on their own. I think they called it Swaddle Me. The other thing you can do is either swaddle them with one arm out, which worked for a little while with mine, or just swaddle their legs so they feel cuddled but they have the freedom of their arms loose if they prefer that. I did that too when they made it obvious they wanted both arms out and about when they slept. Now mine don't sleep with swaddles. By swaddling fewer and fewer parts of them (full swaddle to one arm to only legs) it helps the transition from swaddle to swaddle-less go much easier than cold turkey for some babies.

I apologize for any typing errors, I am attempting one handed! We have the Swaddle Me blankets and they still break out. I am so scared of stopping sice they seem to need them to calm down, but we bought some of those sleep blankets and are going to try those tonight. I have gotten worried because when they get their arms free they don't necessarily get the velcroe open and it end up over their faces!

We moved ours to separate cribs a couple of weeks ago for the same reason, lots of moving and getting on top of each other and now they do a lot better, more room to roam. We removed the bumper on the crib they were sharing because I found my baby boy with his face against it but then for the next week after removing the bumper I found him with limbs through the slats and his face against it so now that he is in his own crib we have the bumper back on and he just gets his feet propped against it and doesn't move up on it nearly as much! We have thought about getting the breathable bumpers too - I think I would rather do that than find them waking up with arms and legs through the slats!
