Here is the scenario - I am 27 weeks pregnant with twin girls and have a 3 year girl at home. I am still teaching part-time. Today, our emergency phone tree was activated due to a "probable" case of Swine Flu (H1N1) in one of our local schools in the district. This school is actually the next school over from mine.

The decision will come down tomorrow sometime from the Health Dept. and Superintendent whether just that school will be closed or the entire district. Everyone thinks they will close only that school and keep all the others open.

The case is not confirmed at this point. I am going to call my doctor immediately Monday morning to get her advice on going back to work on Thursday and Friday. I just wanted to get your opinions, especially if anyone is a doctor or nurse. If I wasn't pregnant (especially with twins), I probably wouldn't be worrying much - but it is a whole different ball game.

What do you all think? Should I chance going back to work for my two days this week?

    Heidi

i wouldn't go. And let me clarify that I'm not normally paranoid or neurotic about stuff like this...but I just think that with twins the risk isn't worth two days of work. That's not a medical answer, just my gut. Good luck on your decision!

I also agree. I definitely would talk to your Dr though and get his/her opinion on it! I always think its better to be safe rather than sorry. Good Luck!

I don't know.. I probably would go back to work since it's not at your school.. But you have to do what you think is best for you. Hopefully the health dept. will take care of making the decision for you and maybe shut down the whole district.

I wouldn't go, BUT I am super paranoid and neurotic about that kind of stuff!!!
Definitely talking to your Dr. first then making your decision will be best :good:
    Good luck!

I would not go back to work. DH actually did talk to our doc just two days ago and said that in this particular case (me being pregnant with twins), we should be 'paranoid' and take every precaution...

Talk to your doc and get his/her input!

 As if you needed anything more to worry about, you need to worry about swine flu. I agree with PP and wouldn't go in, but definitely get your dr's thoughts. Good luck girl!

I work in a hospital (as a physician) and I'm 22 weeks with twins. I think that you should be alright because you didn't have direct contact with the suspected case, but you could check in with your obgyn to be sure. It seems like the swine flu isn't much worse than the regular flu, but there is a always the potential.

Thanks for all your posts. I am definitely not a paranoid type person usually, but the twins are a different case. I just kind of wanted to make sure I wasn't "crazy" not wanting to go back to work and take a chance.

I will definitely be calling my doc Monday morning, but appreciate all your comments.
