We get to use Neublizers Again for a month. Geeze! I hate getting sick!

And you can't reason with a 2 year old. Or even 2 2 year olds.

We have done the fav book reading and the fav tv show...and still screaming & lots of
ouchies for Mommy. I have a busted lip now.

Any great tricks to get these sweet angels to take their breathing treatments???

    1 guy is 2x/day
    The other guy is 3x/day

It's ONLY me... no extra hands/arms/adult holders

    Thanks!

We sing songs, I tell them 5 songs, let them pick which ones and we all sing together. It distracts them, they have an end in sight and I know they are breathing in and out getting the medicine.

Good luck!! it's tough!! I know!

I do the favorite show, give the other baby an empty mask to hold, and sort of make a game out of it. The first time when he hasn't had it for awhile is always the hardest. I also give him a favorite toy (or book) to hold to he doesn't try to rip it away. Hope it gets better!

Ask your doctor about inhalers with a spacer. My friend is a respiratory therapist and agrees the inhaler with spacer is acutally better for delivery the medication. It is sooooo much easier.
    Good luck

We do a favorite show as well. The girls hate it for the first few times everytime it gets pulled out, but then they get used to it and seem to not mind it so bad. It's just that initial fear of the "smoke" as they call it and they hate the noise.

I also have done the favorite movie, TV show and singing. Another thing that helped was having my DS's favorite stuffed animal use the nebulizer & also having me, my DH and DD also pretend to use it and let DS act like he putting the nebulizer on us. I also let him turn it on and off.

It seemed to help a lot when I let my DD hold it herself (or course, I was sitting right there directing her). I would also put it on my face for a quick second so they could see it was OK, and didn't hurt. I also sing, let them watch the favorite show or bribe them. Whatever it takes! Momma!

I've done a lot of the above suggestions. I've also taken the mask off and attached the hand held part that blows the medicine out and just put that in front of her face. Sometimes it's having the mask on that made her so mad and if she could sit and watch a favorite show with me holding the medicine in front of her face, sometimes she did a lot better.

Try playing a preschool game, or maybe a bribe! I've resorted to it before. Anything to get the med in them. Like pps said, we too have often removed the mask and just blow it in the vicinity of the nose/mouth. I've had it irritate my eyes though, so just keep that in mind. Sometimes I would even be able to give a neb while they slept that way.
It does get easier as they get older. Although my 10 yr old is now putting up a fight again. But I think that's from wanting to be normal and not need them.
I agree that sitting and cuddling with them in your lap while taking it, is SO much easier.

We got a masked shaped like a fish for ours and the kids like pretending they are a fish. I have also been known to resort to bribery to get them to sit there and take their medicine. Not the best solution, but it gets the medicine into them!

I have also done the treatment while they are sleeping and just hold it near their face-our pedi suggested this if they were having issues.
It didnt seem to wake them or bother them while asleep, maybe you could do it during naps and after they go to bed at night???
    Good luck!! :youcandoit:
