My two have been pretty good nappers until a couple of weeks ago. They were really fighting their morning nap so we decided to move them to only one nap. Well, that was working pretty well until this week - they would go down for their nap at 12:30 or so and wake up at 3:00 and it was great. This week, however, they have not napped at all!!! Nothing has changed in the routine from when we started putting them down for only one nap but suddenly they just talk and play the entire time they are in their cribs which means they are not napping at all during the day!!! I am assuming that they are maybe over-tired and getting a second wind by the time naptime comes, or maybe just going through a stage but I don't know what to do. They actually aren't too, too fussy in the evenings (I work full-time and this is at daycare that they are not napping), but I know that they need sleep but I can't figure out how to make that happen. They are having to stay in their cribs for two hours in the afternoon, but they are not sleeping so it isn't doing any good really. Did this happen for anyone else when you were transitioning to one nap? Is it just a stage that will pass when they get sleepy enough? Should I move their nap up a little bit to try to catch a sleepy window, or later maybe? I tried to backtrack and reinstate the morning nap and that didn't work at all either. I'm at a loss!!! Oh, by the way - they wake up at 6:45 AM and go to bed at 7:15 PM.

Mine do this every now and then and the only thing that seems to work is putting them down a half hour earlier for nap. I then push it back out 5 minutes at a time or so. The timing of it is really key at our house. If they go down after they've hit that too tired moment then they don't sleep. Good luck!

We haven't gone to the one nap yet, but I ditto the previous poster's suggestion. Put them down earlier. They need sleep!

I also agree with Brigette, I'd try for a little bit earlier of a nap and see if that helps

i would agree with everyone else - maybe try a bit earlier. i also wanted to add something someone told me once about sleep that i really appreciated - it's our job to put our kids in a place that's conducive to sleep at age appropriate times throughout the day, it's their job to decide whether they're going to sleep or not. ;) it's kind of like the division of responsibility for eating. GL!

Thanks all - good news is that they slept for 2.5 hours yesterday so maybe they are back on track!

 That's good news. I love how they like to keep us on our toes and throw us a curb ball once and a while!
