Forgive me for :BDH: , but I need some help.

We have started the boys in daycare part time this summer. They go Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursday from whenever I get them there in the morning (usually 7:45ish) until whenever I pick them up (usually 4:00ish). At home, they are on two naps. At daycare, they only get one nap.

Here's the dilemma: the boys do fine with one nap, but only if there are other kids around to distract them from the fact that they are fall-over-tired. I would love to have them on a one-nap schedule at home, but I don't think they would make it. I think that meltdown would be imminent each day and that I simply wouldn't be able to handle two cranky toddlers with one nap only. :headbang:

WWYD? Keep them on a two-nap schedule Friday through Monday, and let them have their one nap at daycare? Call it their "transition period"??? Suck it up and deal with the crankiness during the transition??

Do I just need to put on my :panties: ???

(sorry, I was having way too much fun with the emoticons! :p )

If they are still happily taking two naps at home, go with it! My girls rarely nap at the sitter's house (she is just TOO much fun!), but they still nap at home. I just adjust bedtime for the days they are with the sitter. GL!

I have the same situation. They are in daycare Tues and Thursday and home w/ me the rest of the week. At daycare they do one nap a day at home we do two. I am just not stimulating enough for them I guess. As long as they still take the two naps I will keep this schedule. Once they start skipping naps then I will transition to one nap.

I would give one nap at home a go and just see if it works. We switched to one nap a couple weeks ago, so now instead of two 45 minute or half hour crappy naps, they have one 1 1/2 hour or 2 hour nap. Yes, the first few days they were complete cranky pants, but now they're fine.

We have the exact schedule...those days we have daycare, the girls take a short nap when they get home--they would have a meltdown if they didn't. I've tried to keep them up, but it's not worth it. I adjust their bedtime accordingly. And then, on the the days we're home, it's a standard 2 nap schedule. I just go with how they are doing...mine are still needing the sleep, or else I would transition them to one nap...

I have the opposite problem. Mine nap twice a day at the sitters (now they only go once a week since I'm out of school). At home they nap once a day. They do fine at home as long as I get them down around 11:30, right after lunch. I'm getting ready to talk to the sitter about her going to one nap. I know she will be fine with it since she attempted it when they were 11 months.

If I were you, I'd have yours nap once at home to keep things consistent.

When my parents would watch the twins two days a week, they would not nap at all at their house. At home with us (at the time) they were still taking two naps a day. I would keep up the two naps at home until they are showing signs of transitioning to one. It sounds to me like they still need the sleep at home (maybe those days are their recovery days from day care?) Good luck!

Yep, same here. My boys are in daycare mon-fri and take one nap from 12:00 - 2:00/2:30. But, at home they have two naps 9:00-10:00 and 1:00-2:30ish.

Let me ask you this.. Would you prefer they did one or two at your house? Because it really is the pt now where it's up to you. you can decide what YOU want when they're at home. I, personally, have always preferred ONE longer one to free up the day. They are old enough now where they could do just one as you can see by daycare.

it would drive me nuts to do one nap one day then two the next and so on and so forth.. i have to have routine.

I love routine, too. But honestly I think I'd rather do 2 naps at home, simply because I don't know that I could deal with the fussiness. On a 2-nap schedule, they nap 10:00-12:00 and 2:00-3:45 (if not sleeping, then in their cribs resting). At daycare, they eat lunch at 11, then nap 11:30-1:30ish. Today we had meltdown because they were so tired when they got home. Yesterday I put them down when they got home, but I had a pair of Mr. Crankypants when I woke them up for dinner. I'm feeling like it's a lose-lose situation.

The one thing I like is that they're in daycare for 3 days in a row, then home for 4 in a row, etc. That way it's not every other day.

    Thanks for the input, y'all!

My boys didn't start taking one nap until 23 months. So, I'd say that if it makes your life easier, there's nothing wrong with letting them have 2 naps while with you, and 1 nap at daycare. They will let you know (by not sleeping) if they no longer need a second nap. The 2 to 1 nap transition drove me insane because I kept trying but my boys just weren't ready for such a long time!

in my parenting class (i'm sorry i always mention it but the teacher is brilliant!) she says it's a good idea to keep going back to two naps every few days once they go on one. for a month or even a few months... so, it sounds like you have a really good schedule right now and your babes should adapt to it really well.

you do'nt need to worry about the crankiness, in other words! stay w/two naps at home and all will be well:).
