    Hi,
For the last week or so, we've been having nap issues. They wake at 6:00 and are down for the am nap 2 hours later. They sleep for about an hour after a good 30 minutes of talking. Depending on what time they get up from that nap, I will put them down for their afternoon nap about 1:00 (about 3 hours later).

They have been fighting this nap. It's now 2:30 and I think (don't want to check) that they finally fell asleep. They are in bed for the night no later than 6:30 pm and sleep through the night. Actually, I still hear Josh so he is not sleeping.

Any idea what I can do differently or is this just another stage that I have to deal with. With it being just me with no help, it makes it very hard to get anything done. By the time 6:30 comes around, all I want to do is crash on the couch.

    Thanks

    Judy,

First - I am so sorry about your DH. It is nice to see you posting.

    Regarding the naps....

Mine are about about the same age as your boys - and we've had the same thing happen a few times. They'll take their a.m. nap (about 2.5 hours after waking) and then their afternoon nap comes about 3 hours after waking from the a.m. nap. Sometimes they'll fight it and never actually go to sleep - other times they'll fight it and then sleep for 45-90 minutes. And yet other times they'll go happily to sleep. I don't know what the deal is - and I don't know how to "fix" it. But I definitely don't think my boys are ready to go down to 1 nap - so I just keep the routine the same and I'm hoping this is just a phase. They are such busy bodies at this age - curious about everything, not wanting to miss anything, etc. that I think for my boys they don't like to be "away from the action" (liking fixing myself and my 4-year-old lunch or unloading the dishwasher is action...ha ha).

Good luck - and if you solve this problem, let me know what you did! :)

maybe they're ready to go down to just one nap a day?
seeing as i'm not ready for my own to go down to one nap yet, i'm going to say i hope it's just a phase and they get back on track with 2 naps!

(sorry i have no real advice for you :( )

My girls have never been very long nappers but they usually go down fairly easy. Here is our schedule:

    6am awake
    10:30-11:30 nap
    3:15-4:00 nap
    7pm asleep for the night

My guys are giving me trouble with at least one nap a day too. They don't seem quite ready to go to one nap per day though. I am hoping this is just a phase and that they will get over it soon.

Mine are almost 11 months & have a schedule similar to yours...

wake at 6am - bottle & I *try* get them to go back to bed (rarely works!)
1st nap at 10am (hopefully an hour). Sydney is striking this nap for the past 2 weeks though. So I am thinking she might be ready to go to 1 nap??
2nd nap at 2pm (normally at least an hour, but no more than an hour and a half).
Asleep around 6:30pm every night & sleep through the night.

If only one is ready to go to 1 nap I am not sure how that is going work? Ugh...
I really like them to be on the same schedule, but I guess I can't control everything

    Hi there,

I was wondering if you could push naptime back to 3:00pm? Maybe it will just be a catnap then. I hope this gets better for you soon .

This may sound strange, but I might try moving up the nap to close the gap of 3 hours. They could be overtired and that is why they are fighting the second nap. But with that being said, mine have gone through periodic stages of fighting naps and they do eventually go back to napping appropriately. I dont think they are ready to go to one nap just yet.

Maybe you could try shortening their morning nap to just a cat nap, like a half hour-45 minutes, and then wake them up. Then hopefully when you put them down for their afternoon nap they will be tired since they didn't sleep long in the morning. I do this with mine, because I would much rather them take a longer afternoon nap, and when they were taking long morning naps their afternoon naps were only an hour long.

Or you could try going down to 1 nap, but it would be a really long stretch since they get up so early.

My oldest DS at 8 months dropped his morning nap and only took one a day. With the babies they are so crabby without two naps a day there is no way they are ready yet to drop a nap, and they are almost a year old.

Here is their sleeping schedule, just in case your curious....
    7:30 wake up
10:30-11:30 nap (I only let them sleep an hour and then wake them up)
    2:30-4:30 nap
    8:30 bedtime

Mine get up around 6am also. Their first nap is at 10am and the second is at 3pm. They sleep for about an 1.5hrs. They go down at 8pm for the night. But they usually stay up for about 4 hours before napping again.

Mine are much younger, so I'm probably not in a good position to give advice, but when mine start fighting their naps, it means they're not tired enough, and I just change their schedule to keep them awake 30 minutes longer... so far it's done the trick... and I guess eventually they'll move to one nap a day that way.

Judy, we are going through the same thing, especially with Luke who has been fighting naps. We think it's just a phase (or hope it is) and are trying to keep the schedule the same.
I'm not ready for a one nap a day yet!!!
