Naps at 11 months.

What should a nap schedule look like for 11 months? My girls go to bed at 6:30pm and sleep until 7:30 without waking up. They usually get out of bed around 8, and they go down for a nap around 11. Sometime they will sleep two hours, but for the most part they sleep between 1.5 and 2.5 hours. Then they're up for the rest of the day until bed time. Sometimes that means that they are awake from 12:30 until 6:30 and I feel like that's too long, but they refuse to take a second nap. Should I be ok with them taking only one short nap since they go to bed early and they sleep well at night?

 

If it's working, then go with it! Sometime around 1 yr most babies will switch to a single nap schedule, sounds like yours just switched early!

Mine still take 2 naps. They get up around 9:30, go down around 12-12:30 for an hour or so (if I'm lucky it's 1.5 hrs but that's rare), up around 1:30-2, then back down around 5-5:30 for another hour or so and up around 6:30, bedtime at 9:30-10:30 depending on how sleepy they are.

 

We aren't quite 11 mos. We sleep from 6:30 - 6:30, by 7 am up for day. Nap at 9ish for 2 hours or so, nap at 1 pm for 90 min - 2 hrs. I was just re-reading part of HSHHC by Marc Weissbluth and I believe he says that 17% of kids go to 1 nap around 1 yr but that many continue 2 naps clear to 18 mos and then it becomes a middle of the day, like 11 to 1 or 2. I guess you just have to figure out yours, but it sounds like from what you describe that 2nd nap may still be needed. Good luck in finding what works.

 

That sounds like a dream to me! I can't wait for my boys to drop down to one nap a day. My 11 month olds sleep 6:30p-6a and then take two 1hr naps a day.
