    Hi all-

I stopped swaddling my 3 month old twins during the day to help them differetiate between night-time and day-time, since I BF and they're up every 3-4 hours round the clock.

But now, they've started sleeping through the night (swaddled), and not napping well at all during the day (unswaddled).

Should I start swaddling them for naps? I'm afraid they'll think it's night-time and try to sleep for 8 hours and I hate waking them up.

And, how long did you swaddle your babies?

    Thanks

I swaddled my dd for about 5 months. I think night was the first times we didn't swaddle, but I swaddled naps the entire 5 months. My ds was swaddled a little longer. Same deal, naps more than night. HTH!

I never swaddled for naps. We just stopped swaddling around 8 months, they were preemies so on the smaller side, now we use sleep sakcs, mainly for the extra warmth.

If you feel they may sleep better swaddled for naps go ahead and try it.

Mine are a little younger, but I just started swaddling during naps and it works really well! They fuss a bit more about being swaddled, but I just place them in the crib even if they're a little fussy and they eventually go to sleep. The best part is, they sleep WELL (like up 2 hours sometimes).

Haven't had any problems with this interfering with night sleeping. Owen is sleeping through the night (8 hours) and Ben wakes up once. I actually feel like the better naps they take, the better night sleep they get.

I say give it a try!

I wouldn't go back to swaddling during the day myself. Maybe you can use a sleep sack?

My boys are 9months and they are still swaddled to go to bed. I tried to have them nap without swaddling them and they did not sleep well. So... it is now our routine, they are swaddled on the bed and carried to their cribs while having a small snuggle and put down.

Now... they often are unbundled within a hour of going to sleep at night, but often during their naps, they stay bundled the entire time!
I have toyed with the idea of not bundling them, but it is working for us and they love it, so I am going to continue to do it until something tells me not to!

I stopped swaddling my babies around a month old or even before that. They have naturally created their own schedule if they are having a growth spurt and sleep during the day they still sleep at night. They have been waking up less and less to eat. Swaddling has nothing to do with my child sleeping for long periods of time or not but every baby and parent is different. IT is more the routine then any thing that they get hung up on so dont drive yourself nuts. Trust your instincts!
