My girls are 11 weeks today (born @ 38wks, 1day). Starting next week I'm going to be completely on my own w/ them during the day. So far, the only decent naps they get are while being held (argh!). If I do put the down, they usually wake up immediately or within just a few minutes. I know I can't do this anymore....so how do you get two down for naps at tge same time and get them to nap???? One would occasionally fall asleep in the swing, but she fusses now when she gets sleepy in there. Just needing a plan to handle flying solo, wondering if its to early to CIO, etc. I am EBF. tHANKS!!!!

I would say it's too early to CIO, you should wait till 6 months for that . Have you tried putting them in swings for naps? My kids loved to nap in their swings when they were that age.

I agree, too early for CIO. At that age my two were not on a regular nap routine, as hard as I tried to get them there! They napped in their swings and bouncies until about 5-6 months when a more normal nap pattern emerged.

OMG, this sounds exactly like my twin girls who are 10 weeks today. Have you tried swaddling them when they are showing signs of sleepiness? My girls didn't want to have anything to do with swaddling after their 3rd week, but I tried again just a few days ago when they were starting to get fussy from being tired. It really calmed them down and helped them fall asleep. It makes them feel secure and it gives them that sense that they are still being held. My girls do not like being swaddled any other time but it seems to work only when they are tired or fussy. HTH!

I forget the exact age now, but I think my boys were around 8 weeks when I started following the Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child advice of putting them to bed within 2 hrs of waking up (usually 90 minutes; 60 after their first morning feed). I also started swaddling them for naps and putting them in their cribs in a dark, quiet nursery. When I added a fan for white noise, they started napping even better.
    Hope this helps; GL!

Our girls were born on the same day! How neat! Hope you're surviving. thanks for the advice. I hadn't thought about swaddling. I just struggle with getting them to sleep! If I try to soothe one to sleep, the other is screaming. I put the sleeping one down to soothe the other and the first one is already back awake (and screaming)!

I just purchased this book but pretty much have been following the general guidelines. It's been a struggle to get the girls down until recently. It's definitely getting easier each passing day as they are falling into their routine. We too have a noise machine. We set it to "rain" and turn it up loud, close the curtains, and set them in their cribs. They get drowsy almost immediately and are now sleeping longer than 10 minutes. I finally feel like I can get stuff done!

    Hi,
I believe in experimenting too. Try using the swing or boucy chairs.
If something works try it again and then try something else for the other one.

You will get it figured out :)

The swaddling def seems to be working for my natalie...not so much for alyse, but hey, one napping better is much better than two not napping well! How's it going with the book???

We swaddle for naps and bedtime, at the suggestion of our pedi. Worked wonders for us, as they take one good nap during the day and take catnaps in their bouncies in addition.

Hey, my DD is Natalie too! :D They were born Jan 22nd @ 38 weeks also!

I used to swaddle them each in a boppy and sit between them on the couch. This way I could rub heads and pat at the same time.

My two are 11wks (adjusted) also and we have been having them nap downstairs with us in a swing and a carseat. My smaller girl likes the swaddle but her big sister HATES it so place her in a grobag instead. We have them nap after a bottle, so i just get them set up in either carseat or swing (they take it in turns throughout the day) then i give them a few strokes or a paci and leave them to it. Normally they are out within 15 mins.

Recently i have been thinking we need to let them nap upstairs now so we tried them in there baskets upstairs this am and they really lost loads of sleep. I normally get 2-3hrs but they only got 30 mins and 1hr :-( The room was dark like at bedtime, white noise and swaddles in place so maybe i'm going to have to break a habit we have gotten ourselves into? For now i just want them to sleep whichever way works, i have had the pleasure of dealing with an overtired baby 3 days in a row now and it's no fun lol

I'm glad the swaddling is kicking in for your Natalie! Your dead right, one fussy baby is sooooooooooo much easier to contend with than 2. Right now i am sat with one baby in the swing next to me and the other sleeping upstairs in her moses basket - but there sleeping so i'm happy!!

Hope things fall into plae with them both soon, if you fathom getting them to sleep upstairs at the same time be sure to pass on some tips my way!?!?!

I also suggest trying the swaddling for naps. That's what we did here. That way they kept warm and they got that feeling like they were being held :) Good luck! I hope you find the light at the end of the tunnel soon!
