DD is still on her normal routine -- 2 naps a day ranging from 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours each. Most recently (about the past 2 weeks) DS has been crying when he goes down for each of the naps, and he's doing the infamous 45 minute naps. He's also waking at 5:30am (on the dot). He used to wake up between 6:30 - 7am, and then nap at 9 and 2pm for at least 1 1/2 hours. He does have teeth coming through -- so maybe this is causing it??? I've given him motrin and hyland tablets....

Is it too early for him to go to 1 nap a day? I think it would suck if I have one doing 1 nap a day and the other doing 2 -- what did you do to make this transition easy for you so that it can also accommodate some time out of the house for playgroups or errands.

    Here's our schedule lately:

    5:30am wake up
9am nap (DS is only napping for 45 minutes)
2pm nap (DS only napping for 45 minutes)
get ready for bed at 7am, and sleeping by 7:30pm

Also, we tried an earlier bedtime -- big time protests!

    HELP!!!

We went to one nap at a year per the advice of their pedi. She told me that the one year olds need an average of 14 hours of sleep a day. During the morning nap, Josh would not sleep and then in the afternoon I would have issues with Jake.

So the first thing I did was to move the moring nap up by 1/2 hour. Josh was fine, but Jake could barely keep his eyes open the first few days. About every week or two I would up it by another 1/2 hour.

Their one nap is at 1:00 and usually lasts a good 3 hours. They wake at 7:30 and are in bed at 7:30. My boys need more than the average hours of sleep. Unless we have something going on in the morning or afternoon, I let them sleep as long as they want and I never have a problem with them having a hard time falling alseep because off too much sleep.

As far as your DS, is he learning something new? For a good month Josh would wake between 4:30-5:30 and it was at the time he was learing to crawl and stand up (he did not crawl until his 1st birthday). Once he mastered pulling himself up, he went back to sleeping until 6:30-7:00.

I think my DS was ready to go to one nap before DD but I was not ready for them to go to one nap. What I did was I still put them down in the morning (they would play in their crib some days and others still sleep) until they had a few days in a row where they did not sleep at all during the morning. I moved the afternoon nap up to 1 pm, the first couple of days they would only sleep about 90 minutes but eventually would go longer and longer each time.
It is possible that teething or like Judy said learning something new could be causing the early wakeups.

ours get 15-16hrs of sleep a day. they are 16 mo. old. usually 11 hrs at night, and 2 good 2-hour naps during the day at 9a and 2p.

hopefully you get your son sleeping again soon. I do know that at around 1 year ours were teething the molars for the first time, and it really kicked our normal sleeping schedules for a while... good luck.

Well there you go -- DS cried when we put him down again today for his morning nap...and again, only napped for 45 minutes. This is getting to be old. I'm going to give it one more week and if it doesn't improve I think I'm going to push his nap out by an hour or two to see what happens.

Anyone else experience this around 13 months?

This was about the age we made the transition, and it was because DS was refusing the afternoon nap. We made DD transition at the same time. It was a moderately rough couple weeks, but they both settled in great taking one 3-4 hour nap.
