napping at friends house tomorrow - any suggestions?

I'm going to my friend's house tomorrow after the twins morning nap -- they usually take three naps a day (about 2 hours of awake time until the next nap). By the time I get to my friends it will be 45 minutes past the first nap -- so I don't want to cut our visit short...I'm going to nap them at her house. Any suggestions as to how to do this? My daughter is mobile, and my son isn't yet...I don't feel like lugging a pack and play...

Should I just keep them up longer and only let them nap 2x tomorrow?

I would go armed with their favourite things to sleep with, i.e. toys, blankie, dummies, etc. My LOs slept at my aunt´s at Xmas and it was pretty horrendous as they knew they were in a strange place and didnt settle well. They were 7 months old. They did sleep but it took forever and they didnt relax. We ended up having to leave with 2 overtired and cranky babies. You may find that they sleep in the car or wherever you are at their usual nap time. Go prepared too! Babies always know when they are taken out of their routine! GL!

Whenever we are away from home during naptime, I always bring my pack n' play and just do the best that I can with naps. I try not to stress about naps as much as I would if we were at home. Good Luck!

same here - i just play it by ear. i usually let them stay up longer than normal & if they only have a short nap i don't worry about it. it usually all evens out by the end of the day (although, i have had some baaaad evenings with two overtired & extremely cranky babies but more often than not, they surprise me & adjust just fine & are back on their normal schedule the next day).

as much as you don't want to take your PnP, i would say have it with you (even if you don't unpack it from the car) - my rule of thumb is that it's always better to have something and not need it then to need it & not have it, KWIM?

    GL!

ETA: and remember, if for some reason your LOs just aren't going with the flow, you can always head home & try another day.

I never had any luck with naps away from home. But the up side is that they're usually so stimulated by being in a new place, they get through the naptime just fine (and then meltdown when you leave :D ). They'll probably sleep in the car on the way home, and then your schedule will be all messed up, but just roll with it and you'll all survive to nap another day. (Easier for me to say now that mine are 3 -- I was not so mellow when they were 10 months!)

This is my philosophy, too. They really won't nap anywhere else unless they are really, really tired so I just plan to deal with overtired babies when I get home. I try to keep my outings short enough that it works with their schedule, but it doesn't always work out. If it's a 45 minute drive, they'll at least have a chance for a decent nap on the way home. When we get home from an off day, I try to get them into the house asleep so they can finish the nap. Usually they wake up on the way in, so I just feed them, change diapers, and do our naptime routine and try to get them back down that way. It's like they need to start fresh...if I tried to just lay them down, no way would they go to sleep, but if they are tired, a short version of our routine is enough and they'll finish the nap. Bedtime may be rough, but they'll probably be back on track by the next morning. Who knows, your may decide to nap (and I'll be totally jealous!), but if they don't, you'll all survive. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Same here. I would just plan on skipping it.

Like Becky, I would also plan on skipping it too. Mine do not nap at all or well at other people's houses.

Good Luck! I say if you can, bring the PNP just in case! In a couple weeks I'm driving 2 hrs to stay with my mom for 5 days.. with the girls; who by the way have never been to her house!

Mine either don't nap well at others houses or they sleep longer than usual.. Last time they napped somewhere else though, they weren't crawling and just slept in regular beds and was fine.. this time it's different they are crawling, pulling up on Everything [even ME] and trying to stand.
