My daughter struggled going down for her nap. I swaddled her (which she hates, but usually deals with it and goes right to sleep). Today she was fussing, struggling to get out and starting to whine and cry. I sensed she was overtired and I missed my window. In the meantime I could hear my son fussing on the bed in the other room (now separating for naps). I went and got my blow dryer, turned it on and layed it on the changing table and left to go work on getting my son to sleep. 5 minutes later I checked on my daughter and she was asleep! Ok, maybe not the best sleep training, but whatever works sometimes...

That totally worked for us in the wee hours for older ds when he would work himself up beyond recuperation… if nothing else you know what you can due in time of “need”. Since my experience with the drier I bought a white noise cd and used it with the twins the first couple weeks… you know, vacuum, air-conditioning, windshield wipers, rain, restaurant noise… I would turn it up pretty loud…

    Glad it worked for you...

    out 'n' about (resaurant ambiance)

We use a noise machine with various nature sounds- works like a charm! I never put them to bed without it. And it's helpful to me because it drowns out all of our noise and the dog.

I have a nature sounds sound machine in her crib that we found worked early on and we still use it all the time, but I feel like she's immune to it already. I was surprised to find the hairdryer (and probably vacuum) noises still soothed her at over 4 mos. Maybe I'll look into that CD...

We found a noisemaker made by Marpac.
It is white noise. We really didn't like the nature sounds with all the waves and crickets and things.
This one is just a wooshing air noise, like a machine or something. Sound like the outside air conditioner unit. I always wonder if my mom used all of those noises for me because I still love sitting in our laundry room reading a magazine to the sound of the washer and I love being at the salon with all of the dryers and hums around me!

I'll have to try that hair dryer trick! :)

Or if you have a tv nearby, the static on the tv does wonders too! ;)

I found around about 4.5 months I started to us a CD player which I hadn't before. I used a lullaby CD and then thought I'd mix it up and moved to Yanni -- works. It has a "repeat" button I love.

That's what we have too. It was given to me as a Xmas gift and now it's being put to good use! We use the "waterfall" sound - it's just white noise and we turn it up pretty loud.

Wish I'd seen this before with colicky twins! LOL could've saved hours of running the vacuum in sitting position and tons of electricity!

White noise is awesome! It really helps here, too. I'm glad you found something that worked for you.
