nap time binky toss

Emma is my binky addict, but she only gets it for nap and bedtime. For nap time, I sneak in there after she's asleep to place a handful of binkies in the crib because if she wakes up and can't find one, she gets very upset, wakes up Lauren, nap time is done and mama is not happy!!

It usually takes them a little bit to fall asleep. No crying, fussing, or whining, just some playing. If I put the binkies in there when I lay her down, they are tossed out as they have their pre-nap fun fest.

So my question is...should I start putting them in there and making her realize if she tosses them I'm not going in to rescue her and give them back, or do you think she's still too young to do this?

I think you could have a tough nap or two, but yes, if it's tossed, it's gone. I actually do this with my binky addict boys. They throw it, it's gone because I don't go back in once I leave them (for naps). I'm still working on making them cry if they wake up at night. They are old enough to figure out that solution.

I would go for it. I think Heather is right you might have a rough nap or two, but I think they understand a lot more than I give them credit for at times. After a week and a day, mine just take out their binks and toss them in their cribs, which they now understand they have to do to get out of their cribs. Good luck! THis whole binky thing is crazy!

Thanks for the help girls. I usually take them out and put them in a basket when I get her out of bed but I think we'll start a new ritual of putting them back into her crib right after she gets up, before we leave the room.

    Anyone else have any insight?

I would attach it to her on one of those binky leashes. That way it's always right there and those things are not long enough to wrap around her neck.

OR.... Just get her off them now before it gets harder and harder. :D SO easy for me to say!

That's a good idea...but...the reason I weaned her off of car use was because she would pull the thing right off of her and fling it around. I used to hold my breath hoping she wouldn't whack her sister upside the head with it.

Oh...my...gosh!! No way, Jose!! That was my first thought and then I quickly dismissed it. I can't do that yet, she is SOOO attached to it for sleep that I know it's going to be MEGA drama when we get rid of it. I haven't filled my prescriptions yet to deal with that (just kidding).

But, THANK YOU, seriously for your suggestions. I'm open to any to try and get this to work.
