ive read hshhc and we were on the 9, 2, 5 nap schedule like they suggest but now they are waking up after about 45min-1hour of sleep and wanting to go down again 1.5 hours after they wake up so its 9, 11ish, 2ish, 5ish. seems like too many naps to me! am i doing something wrong...? or is this sorta normal for the age we're at? dd sttn about 80% of the time, ds wakes up every 3-4 hours, sometimes not even wanting a bottle. any ideas? tia!

Maybe you could go to 2 naps and see how that works. When my girls did that they were ready for 2 naps. As far as waking up in the middle of night and not being hungry, CIO worked wonders for that problem for us.

If mine wake up after 45 mins I let them cry for a while because I know they have not had enough sleep and usually they will go back to sleep for another hour. I know they had enough when they wake up and start taking and playing. If you get them sleeping longer than you should be able to move to only 2 naps a day which might help the STTN and sleeping longer at their naps without the 45 min wake up. Good luck!

With us.. there are some good nap days and some bad. I'd just go with the signs the babies are telling you. If they're tired I'd let them sleep. I just think of it as if they're going through a mini growth spurt and just need the rest during the day.

Mine are doing two fairly decent naps and a smaller "cat nap" each day. But, Cassidy wakes up to eat twice during the night and Chloe once. I have no idea what to do about that. How many hours total does Halle sleep at night? (God bless her! lol)

At 7 months, ours were at 2 naps a day. It sounds like you are definitely following their cues. What time do they go to bed? You might be able to get them to 2 naps a day if they can nap longer each time. If you have no problem getting them down for the night, then their naps might be okay for them right now. Naps are so hard, I think naps have been the thing I struggled with the most this first year!

It seems like too many naps to me. That's why I never followed books, every baby is different and I think it's better to let them dictate the schedule.

What I've always done is not worry if they don't nap much. At 7 months I was putting them down again after 2 hours, no matter when they woke up the last time (unless they didn't seem tired at all then I was pushing 2.5 hours). And honestly most of the time if they woke up early for one nap, they slept longer for the other one. And bedtime was 1.5 to 2 hours after they woke up from the last nap, so if they only had short naps they went to bed early to make up for it... but they only had 3 naps. 5pm for the last nap seems late to me also.

I'm with Fran27. . . seems like too many naps and I also gave up on book methods.

My guys are almost 6 months and are doing one long morning nap, a short midday nap and a long late afternoon nap. They go to bed about 9 pm, wake at 7 am with the occasional feed some nights lately but mostly STTN. I can tell they are getting rid of that midday nap gradually, and I'm just leaving it up to them while encouraging good sleep habits.

    Books frustrated me!

I was still doing 3 naps a day until 6mo, then I went to 2 naps a day and they were nice long naps. I found I had a lot more luck once threw my copy of HSHHC out the window. :D
My girls went to bed around 530 at that age too, 6ish at 6mo, 630ish around 9mo and are just now going to bed at 7 at 13mo.

The 30-40min naps were always the sign I needed to change things up for my girls.

    Good luck!

we wake up around 7, and they go to bed around 7. im doing the 1.5-2 hours awake thing along with following fussy/rubbing eye cues. they wake up happy from naps and even with so many naps DD still sttn (usually). its weird. some days they go down around 9 and will sleep til 1030 or 11, then the day is pretty decent with a nap around 2 and then a short one around 4 or 5. other days the morning nap is only 45min long putting them at 11ish for their second nap. then i get all screwed up. they go down without a fight so i know theyre sleepy, but it just seems weird to have 4 naps! ill watch the clock a bit more tomorrow, and try and wait a full 2 hours before putting them down. we shall see! thanks everyone!

    hi
im having pretty much the same prob re too many naps. when ds was a baby he would have 1 morning nap of about an hour, then about 2-3 hours in the afternoon. these 2 still have 4 naps a day and dont normally sleep for longer than an hour. ive tried leaving them when they wake but it very rarely leads to them going back to sleep. what im trying to do is let them have a really quick nap at late morning and late afternoon. usually i will go out in the pram at about 10.30, then they can nap but not for too long. and i put them up for 10 mins at about 5. they are both sttn (6.30 - 6.30 ish).
oh well, at least they are doing it together!!! most of the time
