If I put my 10 month old son in his crib while awake, he will always stand up. His balance on his mattress is still not so great so he is constantly banging his head on the wooden crib rails.

What do I do? I am so tired of rocking him to sleep all the time, but I am more afraid of him hurting himself. I really don't want to get one of those helmet things because I do want him to learn how to fall down correctly. Any advice? Sorry for the vent. I'm just so frustrated.

We have been there and done that with Jake already....I don't think there really is a way to keep them from doing it, they just have to learn how to fall...if that makes sense!! :hug99:

We went through the same thing. They figure it out pretty quick. I would come in the room at about 5 min intervals and lay them back down if they were still standing. Eventually they would either fall asleep after I lay them down or fall down on their own and fall asleep.

I also go in and lay them down repeatedly and eventually they learned to just lay there. Now they stand well so they still stand up but no one is getting hurt ;)

you could try wrapping him so he cant stand up, or he is gonna have to learn that it hurts if he stands up.

he will grow out of it as he gets older im sure.

I would lay my oldest down repeatedly. Eventually he just gave up and fell asleep, it took a couple of days, but he finally got it.

I'm guessing that he is standing up to the front of the crib where you would pick him up? If so then I would also guess that he is probably falling back and hitting his head on the opposite side of the crib? Hmmmmm....I know your concern was him hitting his head. Yes, he does have to learn to fall properly but I can totally understand that you are really worried about protecting his sweet noggin. Only thing I can think of is if you have an extra bumper (or can find one for cheap), perhaps you could tie that on to the back part of the crib where he is hitting his head? At least maybe that would cushion his head a little bit. In the meantime, when he is up during the day and practicing his standing, does he know how to fall on his bottom without falling all the way back or putting his hands infront of him if he is falling forward? If not, just try working on that with him so that he gets the motion and feeling of how to protect himself from the fall. If not, don't worry, eventually they figure out how to do it themselves because they DO get tired of getting hurt. ;) GL and let us know if you figure out a solution.

Only one problem... at 10 months, that wouldn't work... they wiggle out of swaddling quickly, mine could wiggle out at 3 months, so at 10 months, it would be a piece of cake to get out of, LOL

Yeah the wrapping thing would never work - he would scream bloody murder if I even tried

He stands up on all sides of the crib. He doesn't cry so I don't think he is waiting for me - he's actually quite content just standing around...it's me that gets upset because I don't want him hitting his head. We do have a bumper and he is pretty good at falling but every once in a while he bangs his head and I am just so afraid that one day he may really hurt himself.

I guess this is just another stage to get through. Thank you all for the advice and support. :)
