Hi ladies - we have a live out nanny for our twin girls. She started last June so this is our first Christmas and I have no idea what an appropriate bonus and gift would be. I've read anywhere from 1-2 weeks salary. That just sound like a lot. We pay her $650/week and she takes home $500. Any ideas?

I'm new here but I wanted to say how wonderful the support is in this community. I've been feeling really stressed about our girls and their waking up at night habits. We're just so tired and nothing is working.

It's so great to know we're not alone!

I plan on giving my nanny a weeks pay and a nice framed photo of the girls as a gift.

We have a terrific nanny 2 days a week and last year we gave her 2 weeks pay and this year we plan on doing the same. We pay her $75 per day, so her bonus will be $300. If I was in your shoes and had a nanny for a full week, I would probably not be giving 2 weeks pay, more like 1 or a little less, $1300 sounds like alot!

I watch my nephew and don't expect anything (we have an agreement this year) BUT, I would be THRILLED to get even a $100 gift cert to Nordstroms or Talbots or something like that!

If you can manage extra $$ for her, I think that would be TREMENDOUS!! I don't think it has to be a gift card. $$ Helps her to pay her Christmas bills etc....

It's wonderful of you to think of her and want to do something for her!

The standard protocol is 1-2 weeks pay as you mentioned. Our nanny will only be with us a month this year (Dec) so we are just giving $200 (we pay $450 a week). However, next year we will do the 2 weeks pay. Finding a great nanny is very competitive! They have lots of choices and are "in demand". We were competing heavily with another local family to get this nanny! We figure we'd need to spend 2 weeks pay just to replace her if she left (recruiting costs, having to scramble to find replacement care, days off work to interview etc etc)so we are going to suck up the extra expense and try to make her as happy as possible!!

I agree, I need this job to just stay afloat! Maybe I am in the wrong profession!

I don't have a nanny but a girl who comes and watches the girls 3 afternoons a week. And I plan on giving her 2 weeks off with one week paid and a shirt she had mentioned she wanted.
