I am an expecting father of twin boys. MY girlfriend has also said she is leaving the responsibility of naming them since they are boys. I have decided on one which she likes and that is Jamari. Now I am trying to come up with a second. Mother's name is Jamiah and mine Elijah. I have already read up on and decided against naming one Elijah Jr. because that would not be fair to the other but what about Elijah with a different middle name? Any other suggestions are welcomed.

Would it really be unfair though b/c the first name is somewhat after mommy. So one would have a name after mommy and the other after daddy. Just a thought unless I am totally off base and the two names are pronounced totally different! :FIFblush:

    I agree with Jennifer.
Jarmari (nice name BTW) is very similar to your girlfriend's name. So Elijah would not really be unfair. Or how about a variation of Elijah. Elias maybe?

I agree!! I think both names would be great!!! If you would like one to be a jr. then go for it!! or what is your middle name? what about Jamari Your middle name?? and Elijah his mommy's maiden name or another family name?

  5. ejblack82

See, I was thinking the same thing as far as one name being very similar to hers so I didnt think naming one after me would be too bad but I didnt necessarily want/think it was fair for one to be a junior. Also, I have four names (two last names; one biological and one adopted, not hyphenated) and we have agreed they can have both last names. My middle name is James. I think I am going to give LEE as a middle name for Jamari, after my adoptive father who has been there for me since I was 6 and I think it would really touch his heart. What do yall think? What about middle name suggestions for Elijah?

  6. ejblack82

    ejblack82 Member

Then again, they will be getting his last name so I may decide against Lee as a middle name. So that takes me back to the drawing board. For first names, I think I have decided on Jamari and Elijah. Now I need middle name suggestions for both?

  7. Heathermomof5

I think it would really touch him to use Lee, that is really sweet! Jamari Lee is adorable! You could use Lee as Elijah's middle name also so they would both have the same middle name.
I think Jamari and Elijah are very cute -
what about your girlfriend's father?? If she is close to him maybe one of his names would work well with Elijah. that way they would both be named after a grandfather

That is a good idea. I dont know his middle name but I think it would be nice to use both of theirs. I will find out and ask what you all think.

Ok so apparently, her father doesnt even have a middle name so thats a no go. Also, people I have spoke to including my sister do not like the idea of one having my name. I know ultimately, its up to us but I would like to cover all angles. So I am asking for names that would go with Jamari Lee? First names with or without a middle name. Thanks. This is so hard!!

Oh and I was thinking about Jamir as the other one's possible name but that may be to similar to Jamari. Thoughts?

  12. Heathermomof5

    Heathermomof5 Well-Known Member

Jamari and Jamir are cute twin names IMO Plus they would both have a part of mommy's name AND part of your middle name too!! - If you like both names go for it!!! Naming is a hard thing! We did not name one of our twins until like 3 hours before we brought them home from the hospital!! As for a middle name for Jamir - I don't know!!! if you wanted to use another family name since Jamari has Lee then you could look at even your sister's name - could you take a part of her name and turn it into a boy name? Do you have any other names in mind that you are thinking of using?
and do you want another L name so that they would have the same initials?

    when are the babies due?

  13. ejblack82

    ejblack82 Member

I have a month left...due April 26th. Long time I guess but its coming faster than I thought. Plus the fact that I am stationed overseas with a 8 hour time difference, she and I only get to talk a few times a week so 1 month will go by and before we know it, the boys will be here. No, Im not looking for them to have the same initials so the other middle name does not need to be an L. I was looking online and I came up with like 12 possible names so far. Let me know what you all think. Most of them are J names but I found a few E names that caught my eye which was really hard to do. If you have any other E names that are unique and not THAT common but not that unsual as well, that would be great.

    Jamir
    Jaxson
    Jai
    Jarvis
    Javian
    Javonte
    Jamarcus
    Jashawn

    Exavier
    Exavian
    Eziah
    Ezaiah

I love all of the names on your list. I was just brainstorming some E names to help you flesh out your list. Here are my thoughts:

    Ellison
    Evander
    Elliot
    Emyr (EE-meer)
    Emrick (im-rick)
    Elio (EE-LEE-O)

I haven't read every reply, so if I repeat, just ignore me. :D I thing Henry sounds nice with Elijah. Or James and you could call him E.J if you like nicknaming. You could also give Jamari a middle name that starts with "E" and Elijah a middle name that starts with "J". Let us know what you decide!

Yes, I am an officer in the Navy currently stationed overseas for a year. I found out I was expecting like TWO weeks after I accepted the orders. I actually had a choice when deciding on orders but once I accepted them, it was final. Then I found out and was obviously upset about it. But yes, fortunately, I will be able to come home for the birth so thats a blessing indeed. I love the name Jaxson also by the way. So of Jamir and Jaxson, which one would go better with Jamari Lee?? And what would be a good middle name? Also I have two brothers and two sisters which is too many to have any of theirs be incorporated.

Of those E names I really liked Emyr though I might spell it Emir? Maybe still keep it with the Y also. Not sure though but I will add that one to the short list of E names definitely.

Well actually my middle name is James so one would become a jr. if I named him Elijah James which I feel I should avoid to be fair. I keep tossing that idea back and forth though. All the mothers above didnt think it would be unfair since the other is named after her so I'm in the middle on it. And people do call me E.J. by the way:)

Hope I'm not too late to get in on the name game

I like Jamari! To go with that try:

    Jamar
    Jamal
    Jameel/Jamiel
    Jamian* (I really like this!)

Giving them both your first or middle name as middle name is a good idea, that way they are named after you and your gf!
Good luck! Keep us posted on what you decide!

Not late at all. Jamari is about as solid as gold with most likely Lee (after my adoptive father's middle name) being his middle name or it could shift to the middle name of the other boy. BUT you have JUST thrown me a curve. I actually LOVE the name Jamian especially since her name is Jamiah pronounced ((JOM as in mom)-EE-ah). The curve is Im almost thinking of replacing Jamari with it or should I keep Jamari and have Jamian as the other? The only problem I have with the name is that people will mispronounce it his whole life just like people did hers. Most will say (Jamie-an). So Im not sure but I do love that name. That just got added to the list of Jamir and Jaxson as compliments to Jamari. And I am giving them my biological last name and adoptive last name just like I have (Elijah James Mathis Black) so its not necessary to give them my first or middle. Technically they have a part of my middle name anyway. KEep the suggestions coming, you all are definitely helping me out!!! :D

Coming from someone who's name has been chopped and screwed, it isn't that big of a deal...The thing that matters is that YOU know how to pronounce his name. I like Jamari/Jamian combo. Altho alot will disagree and say that names that are similar are not cool...I actually think that they are!

As far as your middle names..make them both Lee. That was (still is) the biggest thing that my BF and I are disagreeing about. His middle name is Alexander and I choose Alexa and xandra, but he only likes Alexandra so that's probably what BOTH of their names will be...

I personally think Jamir is to similiar to Jamari.
Jaxson has become very popular lately (though usually spelled Jackson)
Of the E names you listed Ellison really caught my eye. I love the sound of it and I immediately thought of the writer/scholar Ralph Ellison
For middle names how about your girlfriend's lastname? Is it one that will work as a middle name? That way the other twin with have a family connection in his name too.

Hey EJ, I've been following your thread. I'd like to give a vote for an E name. You can see my boys names below, so you can tell I'm parital to e names. :) Here's my thoughts on some for the other names:

First, I really agree with Meximeli. I was thinking of Ellis or Ellison. I also think Jamir and Jamari are too close. I was also think s good match for Jamari might be Amani or Omari, but then you get the rhyming thing.

Jamir--I like-easy to pronounce, straight forward, but a lot like Jamari.
Jaxson--NO way too trendy right now; everybody and their Mama is giving that name these days.
Jai--I kinda like this--Jai like the word eye right?
    Jarvis--I like.
    Javian--Is it pronounced Jah-vian or Jay-vian?
Javonte--It Ok; I'm think Devante and Jodeci when I hear that one.
    Jamarcus--not bad.
Jashawn--Again is it Jah or Jay
Exavier--Nobody will ever be able to spell this.
    Exavian--Again the spelling issue.
Eziah--Not sure how to pronounce. Do you like Isaiah? Is it suppose to sound like that?
    Ezaiah--Again pronunciation questions.

    These ones from mac+evie
Ellison--I like a lot, and I love the Ralph Ellison connection.
Evander--I like that too although everybody will ask if you kid is named after the boxer.
    Elliot--Doesn't match with Jamari.
Emyr (EE-meer) I like the Emir spelling way better.
Emrick (im-rick)--Again pronounciation and spelling might be an issue, but it's kind of neat.
Elio (EE-LEE-O)--It just sounds goofy to me. :)

    On the ones from Oh-baby-baby
Jamar--I really like this one, but to close to Jamari.
    Jamal--A definite thumbs up.
Jameel/Jamiel--I like this too; although the one person I know with this name drives me crazy, and still had a 1980s Jheri curl the last time I saw him, so I'm trying to get that image out of my head.
Jamian--Again, I like it too, but it's too close to Jamari.

Ok, so here are my "E" names, and this is coming from someone who decided that my twins initials would EMA and MEA, so I had to search for E names for a while.
    I like Elijah.
My son is Eli, so I obviously like that.

Emmanuel (is my other son's middle name)
    Esai
    Esau
    Ellis
    Elgin
    Ezekiel
    Ezra

I kind of like Jamari Ellis(on) and Elijah Jamal/Jamir
Although I really do like Ezra.

There's my two cents for what it's worth.

It is worth A LOT, trust me!!! Thank you very much for taking time out to assist me in this and that goes for everybody else as well. Whats funny is about 2 weeks ago, I wrote down the name Elijah Jamal so I do in fact like that one as well as Elijah Jamir. I also like Emmanuel. Possible nickname Manny??

I like the name Ellis(on) too. Definitely a good reference to Ralph Ellison. I love the fact of naming based off someone who has contributed something to society. What about Ellis(on) Jamir or Ellis(on) Jamal? Also what about Ellington as a subsitutue for Ellison?? Of course coming from the jazz musician Duke Ellington.

Right now, here is my narrowed down list of First names thanks to you all:

Jamari- Was the first one I like. Still is #1 but can be replaced
Jamian- Pronounce Jah-mian (Only as replacement for Jamari, not combination)
    Javian- Same as above
Jamir- Again, only as replacement of Jamari but also possible middle name
Elijah- Of course I like this name..its my own but still not sure on naming one after me and one not
Emmanuel- Really just love the nick name Manny I think but also a good strong first name which means "God is with us"
Ellison- New name provided that just entered the extremely short list of E names. Could also be used as a middle name
Ellington- Name I just thought of based on Ellison. Same as above, could be used as first or middle.

Here is my list of middle names:

Lee- named after my fathers middle name
    Jamal
    Jamir
    Ellison
    Ellington
    Ayan
    Iman

Soooooooo what do you all think? Out of these two lists, give me your best combinations of first and middle names for twins. Once again, thank you to all.

I like Jamari Lee and Ellison or Ellington James.
They both have middle names from you (yours and your farther's). One has a first name from Mom-variation of her name. And the other has the name of someone you admire either Ellison or Ellington. Ellington would be slightly more unsual, but people will know how to spell it. You could call him EJ, El, or even Duke.

    Jamari Elligton/Ellison
    Jamir Elijah
    Jamir Ellison/Ellington

I'm ambivalent about Javian and Jamian because every time I see them, I say Jay rather than Jah. The names aren't bad, but they are going to get a lot of people not saying it right.

    Good luck!!

Wow, what a dilemma. Going to Biblical names, how about Ezekial (Zeke for short would be really cute) or Isaiah with James as the second name? Jay is also a really nice second name or Jason.

Of course, don't forget that you may hold either of them in your arms, that first time, and come up with a completely different name!

Well she already loved Jamari so I was 1/4 of the way approved. Haven't told her yet about the other names. Gonna tell her today. Hard to communicate from overseas.

I did however change my mind on one name and thats James as a middle name. The reason I did this is because if I have another boy, I will probably make him a junior which means he would have the middle name James and I would not want two kids with the same middle name.

I thought it was tradition for the 1st born son to be the junior? Check into that..I knew a lady a few years back that named her 1st son and her husband named the 2nd son junior and the 1st was real hurt by it. The younger one would taunt him with it, and he would strike out not only against the brother, but was just a bad kid. I'm not saying that the name alone did it, but I'm sure it didn't help...

  33. ejblack82

    ejblack82 Member

Oh I absolutely agree in that case not to do that but in this case, I would have TWO boys not named after me and would easily be explainable to them when they get older that since they were twins, I didnt want to give one my name and one not. Therefore I waited until I had a just one boy and named him after me.

Now if I have twins again, I wouldnt know what to do, lol.

Any suggestions for a middle name to Ellison that doesnt start with a J? I say that because again, if I have another son and name him junior, his initials would be E.J. and wouldnt want to have two EJs running around.

Since Jarmari will have Lee as his middle name, I suggest you look for someone either in your family, or a dear friend that you want to honor with Ellison's middle name. Since Lee is from your side of the family? how about one from your girlfriend's side of the family? Or just letting her choose any middle name she wants since you've come up with the rest of the names?
