I'm curious if and how you can tell whether a trickle is from not quite emptying your bladder, regular ole' discharge or a slow leak in amniotic fluid.

I know I've gotten a LOT more paranoid about every little trickle since the docs told me that I have an increased chance of rupture. So, there's every chance I'm just being a hypochondriac. With that said, I don't want to dismiss anything important either. KWIM??

    Thanks for any insight! ~Laura

If you aren't having contractions, you can wait and see what the night brings. Call your doctor in the morning. They may want to check to make sure you aren't leaking. Amniotic fluid constantly replaces itself, so IF you are leaking you shouldn't go dry over night. However, IF you are still leaking in the morning definately call. Rupture can/will lead to contractions and can lead to infection. It is a very simple test for them to check you in the office [IMG]

I think you have to deliver or be put on antibiotics within 24 hours of sac rupture. It would be worth a call even if you are scared to go to the ER. They can do a test to see what you are leaking.

My OB told me that if you can stand up and still have a trickle then it is more then likely Fluid and not urine. I would get checked for sure. Its is a simple swab :)

The only way I know for sure is the lithmus paper.

I just got back from the hospital for my NST and BPP. I finally had a nurse with more than a decade of experience so I asked her about the trickle. She said, if you feel a trickle when you're sitting down, go pee, change your undies and put a folded up paper towel in your clean undies, like a pad. Then lie down for about 5 or 10 minutes and stand up and go check the paper towel. If the paper towel is wet when you stand up, then go to L&D to get it checked.

She also said that I have SO much fluid that she'd be very surprised if I had a slow leak...that if I had any puncture at all she'd expect a big gush. I'm sure I'll recognize a big gush. [IMG]

I hope that helps someone! ~Laura
