Well, I am finally back home and have a moment, so I thought I would let everyone know that my twins have arrived. Here is my birth story:

They were born in the early morning of January 29th. On Monday, January 28th, I had been having a lot of pain in my hips/pelvis. I had this pain for most of my third trimester, but it seemed a lot worse that day. I was having a hard time even moving without pain. I didn't feel any pressure, though, so I didn't think a whole lot of it. Around 5 in the evening, I had starting having my usual BH contractions. They were a little closer together than usual, though, but not more painful or more intense. For 2 hours straight they were 5 minutes apart, so I finally called my doctor and talked to him about it. He said I should probably head up to L:&D and they would just check.

When I got to L&D not much had changed. My doctor came in to check to see if I had dilated more (I had been around 2 cm for quite some time). I was up to 5 cm! I couldn't believe it. Because I was on heparin and my doctor felt that I needed a c-section because my second twin was breech, he wanted to stop the contractions and see if we could get the heparin to wear off so I wouldn't bleed as much (and to maybe get a spinal for the c-section instead of going under general anesthesia).

I got one dose of terbutaline and the contractions stopped. My doctor wanted to watch me a little while though since I was so dilated to make sure I didn't dilate more and also to see if they could check my blood work and see how thin the heparin was making my blood at the time. A few hours later, they checked me again, and without any more regular contractions, I was 8 cm! At that time, the doctor felt I should probably get prepped for surgery before I had the babies on my own which he felt would be more dangerous.

Unfortunately, though, my blood was too thin, so I had to have general anesthesia for the c-section. I thought this would spare me from having to feel the catheter etc (thought they could do this when i was asleep), but they didn't. I guess they wanted to have as little to do as possible under the anesthesia so the babies wouldn't be exposed too long.

Anyway, I went to sleep, and I woke up with two beautiful children!! Claire Elizabeth was born at 4:09 am and Jackson Thomas was born at 4:10 am. Claire was 4 pounds 10 ounces and Jackson was 5 pounds 15 ounces. Both healthy. No lung issues. They got to come straight back to the room with us that night and start breastfeeding.

I developed a hematoma in my wound about 2 days later, so I had to be re-opened and ended up staying for a total of 5 days. Claire also developed some jaundice and temperature regulation issues, so she did end up in the NICU for 2 nights to watch that, but now we are all back home together.

Here are some pictures (I hope I do this right)
