    Hello Everyone,

After 8 weeks of bedrest, my twins have arrived!

They were born yesterday, December 11th, at nearly 5pm. They are both in the NICU. Baby A - boy, born 6 lbs 2 oz - is in an open cradle and isn't neeeding oxygen. Baby B - girl, born 5 lbs 11 oz - is still on oxygen but moved to an open crib today. I'm scared because they just told me she has a pnemothorax and I'm waiting to hear what's going on!

It's been a hard few days. On Sunday, I went into L&D with a lot of pain. They were afraid of kidney or appendix problems. They found out I had hydronephrosis - supposedly common with pregnancy. The ultrasound tech also believed she had found a blood clot in my leg. I was freaked out by this from Sunday to Tuesday morning, when I finally found out - after having started heparin - that I did not have a blood clot after all; it was just a misread of the ultrasound. It sucked that I had been through so much stress, medication, blood drawing, etc., but I was happy to know I didn't actually have a blood clot.

They took me off Terbutalene Monday night because of the suspected blood clot. By Tuesday morning, this meant that labor had kicked into full gear. With both babies in breech position, I was quickly scheduled for a C-Section.

Thankfully, the section went well. My pain has been well-monitored and I have not had much at all. I am also recovering well. I am so thankful - except for this turn with baby girl, everything seems to be going well. They were very good weights for their gestational age and the fact that they are twins.

Thanks everyone for your support over the weeks, and good luck to those of you still holding on!

Hi there, congratulations!!! You have been through so much it sounds, thankfully you and the babies are doing well.

The pneumothorax sounds scary, but she should do well, common with preemies/multiples from what I understand. My son, a singleton, born 8lbs 5oz via c/s was a big robust baby, full term. He had some respitory distress just after delivery and it was found he had a pneumothorax.

It was desribed to me as a blister on the lung that when Bennett took his first breath, it popped causing his lung to collapse, they were not sure what the cause was or it could have been his CPAP. He spent 9 days in the NICU, but did well. His white blood count was *slightly* elevated and the doctors gave him a "preventative" course of antibiotics to avoid pneumonia. Make sure you ask about that. :)

Your babies sound great! I am 34 weeks pregnant with b/g twins too and their weights at their growth scan were the same as yours! Great to hear they are doing so well :)

Thanks everyone for the support. And thanks Jillian for your story - I'll be sure to ask the doctor about antibiotics.

The best thing about this forum is being able to get enough info and personal stories to be able to put things in context and not freak out so much. Thanks for the help!

Right now, Nadia Aaliyah is our choice for our DD. We have toyed with Rami Khalil for our DS, but I'm not so sure now that I can see him that Rami suits him. I'll let everyone know what ends up on their certificates for sure. :)

Congratulations! I'm glad their birth weights are good, and I hope your little girl recovers quickly. Your story serves as a reminder of how important gestation, not just weight, is to our babies.
Glad you didn't have a blood clot; how are you recovering?

    :birthday: to your new additions!

Congratulations on the birth of your babies. It sounds like they are progressing well. Your DD will be well taken care of and if she wasn't doing well they probably wouldn't have moved her to an open crib. Best wishes for quick healing and health for you all. Nadia is a pretty name and I'm sure you will find the perfect one for DS. Rami is cute though. Enjoy.

Thanks everyone! Baby boy and I are getting discharged today. It looks like Baby girl might get her chest tube out today and just needs a few more days in the NICU.

We are thinking about Nadia and Nadir. Please give me an honest opinion - does Nadir sound too "foreign"? I want to embrace my husband's culture while making sure they don't encounter any extra stereotypes against them.

Hi there, how is your little girl doing? Just thought I would check in on you :) And fyi, my son Bennett is 3 1/2 now.....big healthy happy guy. No repercussions from the pneumothorax after we brought him home from his NICU stay. They heal up pretty fast :) It is scary being in the NICU, you will someday look back on this and it will be a "blip" in time for you.

hang in there, you will all be home soon if you arent already!!! xojillian

    Update!

I was released from the hospital on Friday and our little boy, Layth Nadir, got discharged with me. We are having a nice little babymoon and I am recovering well. I have been feeling a little short of breath, but I realized that I was trying to buzz around too fast. I am walking slower and breathing more carefully and feel better - can't just race off because they're out of there! :) I'm not having any pain anymore and I feel happy, so I think I'm very lucky.

Our little girl, Nadia Aaliyah, is still in the NICU. She has made a great recovery, though. They took our her chest tube and she is now regulating her temp, her heart rate is good, and she is breathing well on her own with no supplemental oxygen. She is alert and responsive and they are letting me start breastfeeding and Kangaroo Kare. I have been blessed in that my hospital is 5 minutes away and has a level 3 NICU, so I'm able to see her a lot. She only needs to finish her Bili blanket treatments and antibiotics before she is released Tuesday night! I'm so thankful. It's a bit weird, though, because I've gotten to know Layth better and she and I haven't bonded as much yet (couldn't hold her when she had her respiratory distress). But I'm sure we'll have a nice little Babymoon when she gets home, too.

Hang in there everyone - even if things are hard, you are blessed to have your babies inside another day. Hold onto them as long as you can, and have peace when they come out that things happened as they should have. My twins were a bit early at a day short of 35 weeks, but when I found out that Layth's placenta had started abrupting, I was thankful that everything worked out as it did.
