My twins have arrived!

My adorable twin girls arrived unexpectedly on Monday September 14th at 7:41pm and 7:43pm (35 weeks, 2 days). I had gone to L&D at 6pm because I had noticed decreased fetal movement that day and was hooked up to the monitors. The girls looked great throughout the monitoring (the nurse described them as "perfect") and just after she said that and had left the room their heartrates plummeted and suddenly the room was filled with nurses and doctors. The nurses had me turn from side to to side in an attempt to find the heartbeats again and after 5 minutes they did and they seemed normal. However, the doctor on call said that he was going to do a c-section because the risk was too great that they were in distress of some kind (cord around neck or something similar). The next thing I knew I was in the OR getting prepped for surgery - and within half an hour my twins were born! It all happened so fast. Ava Louise Mason was born first and weighed 5lbs, 5oz and her sister Vivian Gwendolyn Mason followed a couple of minutes later at 4lbs, 13oz (no cords around necks or anything else that would explain the supposed fetal distress). They both spent 2 nights and 1 day in the NICU and were able to come home with us yesterday when I was discharged. They are both doing remarkably well with no respiratory or digestive challenges. Daddy and I are suitably smitten with our little angels despite the severe exhaustion that has inevitably followed with their arrival!!
