My twins are refusing to wear.........

For those of you that have color coded your twins to make it easier to tell them apart......my twins are now refusing to wear the colors that have always been specific to each twin. I usually put pink, red, blue and green on Mary and I put yellow, orange, purple and white on Mady. Just recently, they are both refusing to wear their usual colors. Has anyone else had this happen? Do my twins now have some burden to carry that I have caused? I hope there is someone out there who has experienced this.

I doubt there is a burden! Don't be too hard on yourself!! Maybe come up with another solution? Like hair bow colors or earrings in one but not the other. Can they articulate another idea to you? I'm not big into character clothing, but you could add some variety to their wardrobe perhaps? Or just different shoes?

I obviously don't have this problem, so I can't really offer great help! Good luck and I bet you'll get some good solutions!!

Have they seen another set of twins with the same clothes on? Maybe they just want to wear different colors :umm: I wouldn't want to wear three color over and over again if you know what I mean. I don't think its a burden. I think they are exerting the independence and wanting to be different from before. Like Diane said maybe you could do different earrings, shoes, or hair bows. I know a set that dresses a like all the time but wears different bows. My girls are identical but because of size differences are easy to tell apart(plus Jessy has a birth mark on her wrist).

I agree that you should try to find some other way to tell them apart. The hair bows is a great idea. Obviously I don't have this problem so I have no great solutions to offer.

When I listed certain colors for each twin, it was just an example. A lot of clothes have combinations of several colors and if for example it was mostly yellow I would put it on Mady with yellow hair barretts etc. If I dressed them the same which I do frequently, I would put coordinating hair do-dads in the color that I usually used for each certain twin. Mary has become known as pink-bow-Mary to alot of people because they look for a certain color for Mary. Now that they are insisting on different colors than what I usually used, everyone is mixing them up. It is kind of funny actually.

I think it is time to try and compromise. Tell them they can pick the color outfit they want, but mommy picks the hairbow. Although the bow may not always be a perfect match to the outfit, you would still be able to tell them apart but they will feel independent. Or do the opposite and let them pick out the hairbow but not the outfit.
