MY TWINS ARE HERE

ON MAY 21 ...AT JUST 34 WEEKS AND 3 DAYS MY WATER BROKE. AFTER 3 HOURS OF LABOR ANDREW MICHAEL WEIGHING IN AT 5 LBS 8 OUNCES WAS BORN VAGINALLY WITH OUT EVEN A PUSH ... AND 9 MINUTES LATER HIS TWIN SISTER AVA MARIE WEIGHING IN AT 5 LBS 2 OUNCES WAS BORN VIA A CRASH C/S. AVA ENJOYED HAVING THE UTERUS TO HERSELF SO MUCH THAT SHE DECIDED TO CURL UP IN A BALL AT THE TOP OF MY UTERUS AND MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE DR. TO GET HER OUT. I NEVER WOULD OF GUESSED THAT MY FOURTH AND FINAL BABY WOULD BE A C/S. BOTH BABIES CAME OUT AND DID GOOD. THEY WERE TRANSFERED TO A LOCAL CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL WHERE ANDREW SPENT ABOUT 6 DAYS IN THE NICU. THE FIRST 3 DAYS HE HAD AN IV AND WAS BEING TUBE FED UNTIL HE LEARNED HOW TO EAT. AVA ENDED UP WITH RESPIRATORY DISTRESS SYNDROME, AND ENDED UP WITH A COLLAPSE LUNG .SHE HAD TO HAVE A CHEST TUBE FOR 3 DAYS. SHE HAD AN IV AND WAS TUBE FED FOR 6 DAYS, UNTIL SHE WAS EATING ENOUGH ON HER OWN . SHE WAS IN THE NICU FOR 9 DAYS. WHEN SHE LEFT THE NICU SHE WAS ONLY 4 LBS 14 OUNCES. AND MY CAR SEAT WEIGHT STARTED AT 5 LBS. WHO WOULD OF EVER THOUGHT ABOUT A MINIMUM CAR SEAT WEIGHT?? SO TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE NOT YET DELIVERED CHECK THAT OUT BEFORE YOU BUY!! IT ALL WORKED OUT IN THE END BECAUSE AFTER JUST ONE WEEK AT HOME AVA NOW WEIGHS 6 LBS! ( ALL THE CREDIT TO THE VERY EXPENSIVE HIGH CALORIE FORMULA THAT SHE EATS EVERY 2-3 HOURS! ) NOW THAT THEY BOTH ARE HOME AND DOING GREAT IT IS TIME TO ENJOY THE UNIQUENESS OF HAVING TWINS. IT IS THE COOLEST THING WHEN I LAY THEM DOWN TO SLEEP SOMEHOW THEY ALWAYS END UP IN THE SAME SLEEPING POSITION. IF ANDREW HAS HIS LEFT ARM UP ..AVA PUTS HER LEFT ARM UP TOO... IT IS THE NEATEST THING.

Congratulations! The story of your twins sounds a lot like what we went through with my two with one baby as a grower/feeder for 7 days and the other with RDS and a chest tube in the NICU for 9 days. My pedi actually gave us a sheet that showed how to mix regular formula to make it 22 cal/oz and how to mix formula into breastmilk to make it 22 cal/oz. That saved use the trouble and expense of buying high calorie formula so you may want to ask your pedi if they have something similar. Also, we brought Sierra home at 3 lb 15 oz and she fit fine in her carseat and newborn size diapers (which are way cheaper than preemie diapers). We had to have a carseat test before bringing her home due to her size and the 5 lb minimum size of the carseat but she passed just fine. I'm glad your two are doing so wonderfully now and congrats again!

Aww that sounds so sweet! That is so cute how your little girl just curled up inside you and said, "Hey, I'm going to stay here a while longer and make use of all of this room!" Congratulations on the birth of your little ones!
