My stay in L&D this week

I went in Wednsday evening about 6 pm with contractions every 3 minutes or so, some of them overlapping and lots of cramping. It's about a 7-8 minute walk to L&D from our hotel room so by the time I got there, they were worse...painful. They hooked me up to the NST machine and I was contracting every 1-2 minutes...babies looking fine. They did a cervix check and I was at 3. Two hours later they did another check, and I had progressed to 5 cm so they decided that YES YOU ARE IN LABOR and that they were going to admit me. At this point I just wanted to know that my babies would be ok, since i was only 34 weeks (I'm about to be 35 now)...they assured me that the babies would be fine, that most likely they're lungs are fully developed, but that they would just need to spend a little time there at the hospital learning to eat and keep warm and such. I just wanted things to progress normally, like nature intended...If they were meant to come, fine, if not, then fine. They decided that I NEEDED AN EPIDURAL RIGHT NOW or else horrible things could happen if I needed a csection later (are you getting my sarcasm?)..I didn't want the epi yet, but they insisted. So after they did that things started slowing down but were still going . At 6 am they did their final cervix check and not only was I not dilated any further, but they were no longer feeling Ian's head, which was previously RIGHT FREAKING THERE. They decided to yank the epi out and get me ready to go home. Sure enough (as I predicted because we all know that an epidural stops labor sometimes, but always for me) as soon as the epi was out the contractions started again in full force. They kept checking me (owwie with the hoo hoo and the stupid catheter and stuff) and no progression. They told me that since I was only 34 weeks they couldn't help, no pitocin or anything, so they were going to send me to the postpartum recovery unit and watch me. So there I went and was discharged friday afternoon. I'm still having painful contractions. Still dilated to 5. And mostly just feeling much much worse than I did when i went in. I feel like I've been through labor with no happy, pretty babies to hold after. I'm told it could be days or weeks, but that the doctor thinks I'll only go a week. I hope at this point that they wait until after Nov 22 when my MIL gets here. The kids were scared that I was gone so long, even though I had explained to them that everything was ok and that I would be home soon. Scott brought them to say Hi on the way to get dinner and Sara saw me hooked up to stuff and burst into tears, which made me cry which made Sam cry. I wish I could have not cried at that point, but I was so irritated and frustrated and exhausted. I begged the dr. to let me just go home, but he said I had to stay.

Anyway...we still wait. Every time I utter a sound or breath heavy Scott goes into overdrive "are you ok? Do I need to call the sitter? What hurts?" ***sigh*** EVERYTHING...

 I'm so sorry. What a crazy time! I'm right behind you and was in L&D Friday night/Sat. day but no dilation for me. I think if I would have been dilating at all my Peri would have probably done the c-section then and there (A is breech and B is transverse). I can't believe they wouldn't do much of anything for you except put in the epi and end up stopping the labor! Crazy. I have an inkling of a clue how you are feeling and it's very frustrating. I hope that you feel better or have the babies soon. One way or another right? ;) Take care and get whatever rest you can now.

 I am sorry you are feeling so miserable. That sounds like quite an ordeal! If nothing else, at least your babies are getting the opportunity to cook a little longer. I hope you are able to get some relief soon! GL!

Wow, that sure was a crazy week for you. But I'm glad you still get to cook them a bit longer. I'm actually surprised they sent you home from the hospital at 5cm dilated. :pardon:

I was surprised too..but the doctor said that he's seen women walk around at 5 cm for weeks...so who knows...but he's not my favorite doctor here either...
