Ok, the girls will be a year old on saturday and we STILL can't get them to drink consistantly out of sippy cups! I swear I've tried every kind. I've even tried giving thier formula in a sippy cup when I know they are hungry thinking they would figure it out. They can sip out of the ones I've tried but it's like they just don't care to do it. They would much rather have a bottle. HELP! And of course I'm getting the "advice" from my mil about how they should be fully on sippy cups by now since her kids were. Am I doing something wrong or are my girls just bottle adicts?

I think once they are a little over a year it is time to get more strict with it. Have you tried the soft spouted sippies? Usually babies will transition to those more easily.

Sometimes you just have to dig your heels in, and give them a sippy... do not give in, or they will see that you will everytime they fuss. They will eventually get it.

I was really stressed out about sippies when my babies were 1. Mainly because my older son was a breeze at giving up things, so I felt like a had a standard to maintain. I talked with my dr about it, and he was of the opinion that it was fine if they still took a bottle until 18 months.

I continued to try sippies over the next several months & at 18 moths we got rid of bottles- cold turkey. It went fine. In fact, when I lloked back at how stressed out I was, I laughed at myself.

Hang in there. I too have owned every sippie cup made!!

My kiddo didn't give up bottles until she turned 2.....she could drink from sippies and straw cups just fine (water and juice), but wanted milk in a bottle.

Honestly, I didn't see the big deal....I never put her to bed with one, so it wasn't a teeth issue. In fact, our pediatrician was never able to give me a concrete reason for WHY bottles were so terrible after age 1, aside from the fact that kids get attached to them.

I figured life was harsh enough, and if she wanted a bottle for comfort, so be it....

Eventually I switched her to the Nuby sippies with soft spouts, which are very close to bottles, and then to regular hard-spout sippies....and finally to straw cups.

I never understood why most people think pacifiers are okay until 2, 3 and even beyond....but not bottles?

I wouldn't stress about this one!

I agree on not stressing. There is no law that says they have to be off of bottles by one. Some babies are more attached to them than others. They will get there, don't worry, and keep trying! :hug99:

We went to nuby cups(at 9 months) and then to regular sippy cups(at 13 months) and are still using the nuby cups at night. No stress is the key the more stressful the event is the more they will balk at switching.

I have to say that I feel better after reading the posts. My girls, Georgia (twin A) takes water from a sippy just fine, but recently we have been working with her to drink milk for a sippy too. She would take one or two sips but that's it. Based on PP, I will try the Nuby sippy with her. Ella (twin B) drinks a little bit from a sippy, but really isn't crazy about it, except to play with.

Mine won't take them either, in fact it's almost like they make a joke out of it. the blow on them where the spout is and then just throw them off their high chairs or away from them. One of my girls will sometimes sip from it and then she lets the milk dribble out of her mouth. My 4 yr old dd just all of a sudden caught on one day so I'm not too worried. I figure, they nap well, eat well and sleep thru the night. life is pretty good B)
