On July 24th, at 37w5d, I had my boys via scheduled csection. Aiden Michael was born crying at 8:18am, weighing 6lbs 13oz & measuring 20" long. At 8:19am, Conner James was welcomed, crying & peeing, weighing 7lbs 4oz & measuring 20.5" long. The boys checked out great & were able to recover with me right away! On Day 3, both boys had to go under the bililights for borderline jaundice & we all went home together when they were 5 days old. At discharge, we were tandem nursing (at least) every 3 hrs with supplements of formula after each feed due to my low milk supply, but by the time they were 5 days old, they started refusing the breast. Pure frustration on their part! So now I'm pumping & giving them every drop I get, but they're also on an every 3 hr formula schedule. I'm on meds to boost my supply & hope to try them back at the breast on Monday (our appt with the Lactation Consultant). Both have some issues with their sucking, but improve each day. Conner lost 10% of his birth weight while hospitalized & is still having a hard time catching up, so we've now increased their feeds & still have to continue to wake them eat (bummer!). My recovery has been EASY & I find myself doing much more than I should...I have to remind myself I had major surgery 9 days ago! I'm already at my pre-pregnancy weight, but sure don't LOOK like it with my 'belly of jelly'!

The boys are beautifully handsome & a complete joy. I miss being pregnant, but each time I look into their eyes, I forget all the sleepless nights BEFORE they were here ;), all the aches & pains, & all the bedrest/PTL hardships. Everyone has been shocked at their weights & how perfect they are. They have the same blood type, but we're still pretty sure they're fraternal, as they each have their own distinct features (then again, people who aren't around them as much as we are have a hard time telling them apart).

I wish you all the best of luck with your pregnancies & look forward to moving up to the FY & (maybe) Breastfeeding forums!

PS Even though my boys were relatively large, they do NOT fit into Newborn clothes & are too big for Preemie clothes. I highly recommend stocking up on the Just Born Onesies by Gerber...they're all that fit! Diapers are a problem too...preemie are too small, but Newborn are still a bit big. We're having the best luck with Pampers Swaddlers Newborn (Huggies leaked a LOT). The sleep sacks are heaven sent....buy lots of those too!

Congratulations!!! I am glad to hear that the babies are doing well and that you are healing nicely. I am glad that you are seeing a lactation consultant. I gave up way too easily, so it is nice to hear that you are trying so hard!!! I wish you all the best in your journey and don't be a stranger!

huggies leaked for me too... I was in your same boat for bf... low supply for my first dd, but she still nursed for 8 months for "dessert" LOL! for the twins they just kept losing weight while bf, so I had to up their supplements...then dd just totally gave it up at 7 weeks...totally refused, and I just couldn't fight her anymore. DS loved it though, and he did better on it for his reflux than formula..so I moved him over to ebf, while my dd got her bottle... she actually hated eating in general. Screamed if I got her within an inch of my breast... and had to almost be force fed her bottles b/c she didn't like them either. She's still a stubborn little stinker sometimes!! Hope your L.C. can give you good advice...no matter which way it goes, remember that you have done a great job, even just giving them the first few weeks of colostrum, whether by breast or bottle is giving them the biggest advantage! So don't put too much pressure on yourself. Focus on enjoying your babies first and foremost, not only on making bf work... Trust me... you and your babies will be much happier if you prioritize it that way... I speak from experience going through big time ppd with my first dd over my bf supply issues... I regret wasting those months crying over how I was feeding her versus taking the time to enjoy my precious baby.

Congratulations on your baby boys! I'm glad to hear they're doing so well. What great weights, too! They thought my sister's twins were fraternal, too because they each had their own placentas and had distinct differences (to mom and dad) but they had the same blood type. They were told there was a 20-30% chance that they were identical. After nearly 10 months of the never ending question "are they identical or fraternal" she had their DNA tested and they are in fact identical. Good luck and congratulations again!!

Thanks for the pic comments, especially the Bililights one...it's by far my favorite!

I wish you could see their faces because then I'd use it for my birth announcement! Too bad I can't get them to 'pose' like that again on command :)! Ever realize how hard it is to photograph TWO babies for a birth announcement pic? Yikes!

Side note...had to take Aiden into the weekend Peds clinic for a yucky circumcision site (which the doc says is fine...but my poor baby SCREAMS with diaper changes :(....) & his weight is back to BIRTH WEIGHT! Yeah Aiden! That means he can sleep as long as he wants to now without getting woken up to eat. Unfortunately, it's typically HIM that wakes before we'd wake him...it's our dozy Conner that we still have to wake! He's gotta gain 8oz before we can let him sleep!!!

Susie, YEAH for being off bedrest & still cooking! You can deliver at home now, too, right?? WOOHOO! Can't WAIT to hear your birth story! Best of luck bfing...we were doing GREAT until my supply just couldn't keep up with them. The meds I'm on seem to be making a difference & we're going to try at the breast again with the LC on Monday. Wish us luck...I'm seriously sick of pumping all the time :)!

Yup, I can officially deliver in town now so I'm super pumped! It will be interesting to see how long it takes to go into labor now that I'm off all of the meds. Take care of those boys! I am so happy for you!!!!
