My b/g twins have been sick since Friday -- and VERY sick too. On Saturday they both had temps at 103. Luckily that has passed -- although DS had a temp of 100 today which I was disappointed because I thought we got over the temps and were just dealing with the infection now.

Needless to say, my little ones have a cold which have turned into ear infections as well. So they are on their first round of antibiotics ever -- amoxicillin. AND, they aren't doing well with it. I have been giving it to them about 20 minutes after they eat (just like the pedi told me today) and they end up vomitting up their bottle.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong -- but this is what I'm doing:
Bottle in morning - 1/2 hour later Amoxicillin (this seems to go well)
6:30pm solids and snack (which they aren't taking a lot right now) which includes yogurt and puffs
    7pm amoxicillin
    7:15pm bottle
    7:17 -- projectile vomit (TMI)

I'm so frustrated...I feel so helpless right now. The pharmacist told me tonight to call the pedi in the morning and get a new antibiotic because they are having a sensitivity to it. Poor babies.

My boys were on ammox. earlier this year for ear infections and it didn't make them go away. Two weeks later they were on Augmentin and we are now all clear. For the nighttime dose are you doing bottle first? You may just need to wait a little while longer or try it after the bottle. Also, it just needs to be given twice a day. Is there an afternoon bottle that you could give the dose after?

Hope the little bugs are feeling better soon! Being sick is never fun!

:( Awww, poor babies.  I wish I had some advice but I'd definately call your ped. and let him know this is happening. I hope your boys get to feeling better soon.

:grouphug: Poor babies, I hope they feel better soon! I would definitely call your pedi and see if you can get something else for them. Let us know how you make out!

 I am so sorry. Ear infections are definitely no fun in babies. (All of my kids have tubes, so I plenty of experience with them ;) ). I would call the Ped and let him or her know about the vomiting and they will mostly likely switch you to Augmentin. GL and I hope they feel better soon.

I'm sorry they are feeling sick. I agree with pp, I would call the pedi and see if there is something else that you can give to them. I hope they feel better soon!

Poor babies. I know that when the boys were little, they were on amox a couple of times and were also given something for reflux to take at the same time because antibiotics can be tough on the tummy. They just took it for that time period (they weren't ordinarily reflux babies). They have taken Augmentin before too without any issues.

:( I'm sorry they are sick. Amoxicillan has to be refrigerated correct? I wonder if the temp is bothering their stomachs? Maybe try before their bottle, and then let their tummy settle a little?

The amoxil does not need to be refridgerated, but does taste better when it is. It does not need to be given in reagrds to food/bottle, so maybe play around with the time you give it.
FWIW-augmentin is the same as amoxil, it just has an ADDED drug that is actually known to CAUSE diarrhea and upset stomache, so if amoxil works I would stick with it!!
