DH asked me a question today. I was talking to the babies and saying their names to them and he said "So when do you think they'll learn their names?" and I have no idea!
Those of you with older babies, at what point did they start to recognize their own names?
I obviously realize that it's not going to happen now (much too young) but I'm just curious when it's likely to happen.

I think my girls were about 9 months old before they would turn their head when I said their name.

I like to think my boys know their names, but I think they just turn around to look at where I am when I talk to them.

Gavin is responding to his name at this point, Braeden is a whole other story, i think he is learning the art of selective hearing already!!! he will look the other way when you call him.

I love this forum... all I have to do is think a question and its asked [IMG] They answer to Nevan & Norah, Nick, Matilda (dog), Mason (dog), Rita (dog) and Nebo (cat) but not Arthur (cat.) They look for Hun and most importantly Nah - the cry for food. They no longer respond to Num-num as I used to call it. If I try to call either of them seperately they ignore me, it has to be Nevan & Norah.. How curious!

Mine are 14 months and they still don't seem to recognize their names. They seem to be doing fine in language development and their hearing is fine, so I can only assume they don't choose to respond. Either that or they don't know which is Sarah and which is Amy. They are in daycare, too, so they hear 8 or 9 kids' names on a regular basis. I don't know if that makes it easier or harder for them to learn their names?

Both of my boys turn to look at me when I call their name so I think they recognize their names because when I call Nathan, Nathan looks at me and when I call Jacob, Jacob turns and looks at me.

I am pretty sure mine both recognize their names, and have for a good 6-8 weeks now. When I call Grace, she looks at me. When I call Lily, Lily looks at me.

I was pretty amazed they did this so fast.

I think my girls knew their names around 7-8 months. They knew other words way before that and seem to understand quite a few signs.

Mine will turn and look at me when I say either of thier names but I don't think they know which is which yet. Just keep saying them and I am sure one day the light bulb will go off.
