I am finally home from the hospital. Our little girls were born on Monday (July 9th) morning via scheduled c-section. Mariana Kaye was born at 10:30a, weighing 6 lbs 6 oz and is 19.5 inches long. Emmarene Grace was born at 10:31a, weighing 5 lbs 4 oz and is 17 inches long.

Mari and I spent the last 4 days recovering and growing. I had to stay an extra day in the hospital because of the pelvic problems I had while pregnant and my doctor was VERY worried about me pushing myself too soon (see below). I was also dealing with major vertigo and odd visual sensations, so I had to stay an extra day.

Emmy was taken to NICU at one of our local Children's Hospitals about an hour and a half after she was born. She was born with some major bowel malformations and basically her vaginal wall, bladder and rectum were all attached to the same hole. The hospital I delivered at did not do surgeries like this and didn't have a NICU....just a special care nursery. She had surgery Tuesday afternoon and has continued to get better day by day. Her surgery was so that she would have a colostomy bag attached. She will have one for about the first year of her life, then she'll be having some reconstructive surgeries at that time. Emmy will most likely live a completely normal life after the surgeries next year. We are currently waiting for her to be able to digest full feedings every 3 hours.....once she does that she can come home. We were told it could be as early as Sunday or Monday.....that would be awesome, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

Otherwise, keep us all in your prayers....we want Emmy home with us as soon as possible!

I'm so sad for your little Emmy...this hits close to my heart...my little, almost 4 year old, is named Emmalene...so close in name! and we called her Emmy for the first few years....now she's Emma... I pray that your little girl digests her food just fine, and that her body will quickly recover from any surgeries she needs.

Congrats on your girls. I wanted to add that a great friend of mine's little girl was born with a similar issue. Her daughter is getting ready to celebrate her 3rd birthday. She is an amasing little girl and doing wonderful.

I'd be more that happy to answer questions about what I know.

xxoxoxooxo to her coming home soon.
