Born on Tuesday, March 27th (at 38 weeks)

Ethan Jeremiah 9:29 AM 7 lbs. 9 oz., 20.5 inches long
Kellan Elijah 9:31 AM 7 lbs. 14 oz, 20.5 inches long

We arrived at the hospital at 6:00 AM on Tuesday, and everything involved in the check-in/pre-op procedures went very smoothly. I was very calm and excited. This would be my third “C†so I felt I knew what to expect. The surgery was scheduled for 9:00 AM, but once I was in the OR, things got a little hectic. Just as the anesthesiologist was starting to do the spinal, the nurses received a phone call that sent everyone into a panic. There was another pregnant lady who as “crashing†(as they called it) at 25 weeks and they needed to do an emergency “Câ€. The problem was, because of the twins, we had almost every available nurse with me, and there was no other anesthesiologist available either, plus, the other OR wasn’t ready. I felt so bad, wanting them to help her first, but since we’d already been in the room, it was now “uncleanâ€, and they all said there was nothing they could do except proceed with mine as quickly as possible. However, the anesthesiologist had so much difficulty getting the spinal in. It took her 20 minutes, and many different pokes and prods. It hurt, and I was so uncomfortable in that rolled up position (with no room left from my belly to really “roll up†in). Plus, knowing we had to hurry, I felt she was getting frustrated, and the nurses were still on and off the phone dealing with the situation, so they weren’t really supporting me, and I was on the verge of sobbing. However, it finally took, and they brought Weston in, and proceeded as quickly as possible. I felt very hot and clammy, and was having a little difficulty breathing, but shortly calmed down and felt better, especially as I felt them pull the first baby out. (The relief in pressure was instant, and I could breathe!). It seemed to take them longer to get to that point than the last times, but I knew everything was okay because of the doctor’s casual conversation with the nurses. Funny how that calmed me. Once Baby A was out, and we heard him cry, the adrenalin/euphoria started to hit. The doctor said, “wow, this is a big baby!â€, and then after he pulled Baby B out, he said, “wow, this is a really big baby!†We were assured they both looked great, and I got to have face to face contact with them right away (not the case with my other sons). It was amazing, there they were, my two perfect little guys! Daddy got to cut the cords, and he left with the boys to the nursery, while I was wheeled away to recovery. The hour or so at recovery wasn’t bad, I was still on a high and was so relieved to be able to lay on my back again! All these nurses kept coming by and congratulating me on these huge twins!

Next they wheeled me back to the room, and we got to stop at the nursery, and they brought the boys out for me to hold (again, with my other two sons it was never so smooth that I got to have so much contact so soon), and then to my room. The boys joined us in another hour or so and roomed in with us the whole time (except for one 4 hour stint the first night when we asked them to take them so we could rest a bit). I felt my recovery has been a bit harder this time, and some of the side effects in the hospital were new this time around; some nausea the first day and some intense gas pains the second. And I am still pretty exhausted.

We came home on Friday, and it’s been a whirlwind, but a blast ever since. They are both excellent nursers and pretty calm babies. They seem to have their nights and days mixed up a bit, but it’s not so bad so far. My older boys are doing pretty well, and luckily we’ve had Grandma around to help. My 13 month old does have a bad case of diarrhea though, so that’s been no fun today.

I just can’t get over how adorable they are, how much I love them already, how incredible my husband is, and how extremely blessed we are as a family. Also, that I was carrying around almost 16 lbs. of baby! What a ride!

And we don’t know if they are identical or fraternal yet. We’re leaning towards fraternal, but they look similar enough we aren’t completely sure!

Oh yeah, another cool thing… they are going to be in our newspaper! There is going to be a special for Nurse’s Appreciation Week, and they need some babies to pose with a nurse, and they asked to use our twins! Very fun!

congratulations! I hope the other mom and her baby turned out okay. You'd think they would have a second OR they could use! Very good size twins! I remember a retired ob/gyn nurse told me that she once helped deliver twins that were over 8lbs each.... not sure if she was trying to make me feel better :umm: My first dd was over 8lbs...and I was terrified of deliverying twins that were over 8lbs too!!

Oh, and mine didn't look alike at all at birth but by 5 months... Turns out they're ID. Much too soon to call it unless they have different blood types but it's fun to guess. :)

    CONGRATULATIONS!!

    Wowza on those healthy sizes.

So sorry about the chaos surrounding the c/s. That must have been very difficult. Interestingly, this was my 2nd c/s and they had quite a bit of difficulty inserting the spinal for me as well. It took them about 20 minutes and I was getting so anxious in that position. My Dh was also getting nervous as he was waiting outside for them to give the ok to come in.

So glad to hear that you are settling in nicely with them. :D

They are truly beautiful and do look quite identical. It'll be interesting to see if they are.
