My Head Understands....

My sweeet Rissa has night terrors - they have always been distressing but I understand she is not suffering, is not aware and her crying is simply a result of her body being awake while her mind is still asleep. But recently the disturbing wide open eyes & loud crying have been replaced by a panicked look, wide open eyes & flailing about like she is trying to get away from something. I have read a lot about night terrors, spoken to her pediatrician and believe she will out grow them....but this new tremorous keening and panic-stricken look just breaks my heart. The thought that something is going on in her head that is causing her fear or panic is sooo upsetting to me. I do all the things I am supposed to.....keep her safe, don't wake her up, be quiet....I just want to hold her close, wake her up & assure her she is safe in her mother's deeply loving arms. This just had her third episode in 2 nights....I may call her pedi tomorrow just to be reassured.

My oldest had night terrors......for 6 mos.! I hope that it passes quickly. They are awful. I hardly got any sleep. Then one day, she just didn't have them anymore. I'm sorry that it's happening!

Brady gets night terrors periodically, and it is very distressing. He has yelled out, "I don't like it!!" like he's so scared of something, and there's nothing we can do to make it better. We always sit by him, try to hold him, and reassure him that we're there and everything's OK, but we know he really isn't hearing us.

It's an awful feeling not to be able to comfort your little one. The good thing is, they don't remember that it happened, but it's hard to see them like that and not be able to fix it.

Jessica had night terrors for a t least a year. I am happy to say she's not had one for about a year so since she was 4 1/2 so hopefully she has outgrown them, and hopefully ur little girl will too. It was so distressing at the time.

Meghan has had them before, not in a while. It is so distressing to watch! I hope you can get some reassurance from your pedi.
