My girls destroyed their matress

So this afternoon, while on a nap strike (a post for another time), my girls got into destroy mode, they tore up the books I had left them to "read" and apparently they got to their mattress as well, this mattress was purchased originally for my oldest son, so it's about 7 years old. Recently, they have been stripping the sheets and peeling off part of the thick plastic of the mattress, well this time, it looks like they bored a whole through it, first of all, there is a thin plastic (almost like a bag, that you put produce in) around the foam which is underneath the mattress, so that in itself has me worried, and annoyed, who in the world puts plastic inside a baby mattress? I keep hearing about all the toxins inside mattresses, and while I never gave it much thought I can't imagine having the junk exposed is any good.

My girls are 25 months and I know their days left in their cribs are limited, so I am not really interested in buying a new mattress. I saw this product and think I will get something like this to use in the meantime

Do you think that will be good enough? Do you think I have any right to complain to the mattress company about the contents of their mattress?

We have those zippered mattress covers on all the beds in the house because of all the different allergies in our home ranging from seasonal hay fever to food/medication. They work great and may help solve your issue temporarily.

I would call the mattress company simply because when we purchased the twins big kid beds in March they came with 10 year warranties. I was surprised, but the sales person told us this was common with kids mattresses because of the added abuse they take compared to a full-king size. A phone call wouldn't hurt and if you don't call the answer is already no.

I agree with Kristin, I would contact the mattress company even if there is nothing they can do for you, just so they know. I also think those mattress protectors will help you out in the meantime. Good luck! It amazes me the things toddlers can destroy :faint:

wow! sorry! ditto to all listed above. I will say that it sounds like they aren't tired... UGH!! Mine have totally destroyed books too, I don't let them have them in their rooms anymore. Even the board books. I really think that it just prolongs them from falling asleep anyway, if you have any of the infant cloth books, maybe give them those.

As for the mattresses, I'd almost contact them first and see what they say. You may be able to get new mattresses soon. I've had great luck with various companies getting new products for ones that have broken etc.

So in the end, I found a cheaper mattress cover from babiesrus's website, only 9.99, I was able to order online and pickup in store, Very convenient.

I can try and contact the mattress manufacturer, but of course one of the first things that they pulled off, was the label of the mattress, I did pull off the tag that has the contents, but I really don't have a receipt anymore, or any proof that I bought the mattress 7 years ago, plus for some reason, "kids destroying this product" is never covered under warranties

I have no ideas for you. BUT, wanted to let you know that my guys destroyed one of the mattresses that I had from their oldest brother before they were 2! And, it's disgusting what is inside!!! I was totally grossed out.
