My girls arrived last week

i know that i dont post a lot here, but when i have, i've received a lot of support and i definitely lurk here and read the posts daily. here's my birth story and a few pictures of my girls.

on 5/29, i went to my 34 wk ob appt and the sono showed some growth issues with the girls, mostly twin a (sadie). my doc was concerned and sent me to L&D for extended monitoring. i got there around 3pm and stayed on the monitors until about 2am... everything looked good so i was admitted to the antepartum floor to have another sono and doppler studies in the morning. those doppler studies came out good, so my doc decided to keep me on the antepartum floor for daily monitoring until i reached 36 weeks when she wanted to deliver me due to the growth issues. it was a long 10 days on the floor, eating hospital diabetic food (blah!), watching very limited tv channels, and being awoken at all hours for various reasons. but finally at 36 wks, on monday june 9, i had my scheduled C/S and my beautiful daughters were born! i was miserable for the entire c/s... having the spinal anesthesia was just a really strange feeling and i was getting a bit anxious because my anesthesia level was getting very high, up near my neck. i just wanted the whole thing over with and quick! my mom was sitting next to my head and taking pictures. at 9:03 am, Sadie Claire was born, weighing 4 lb 7 oz and measuring 17 1/4 inches long. as soon as she came out, my doc held her over the surgical drape to show me and i do believe i was in shock. i remember looking up at her and seeing her, my mouth literally dropped open. i couldn't believe that just came out of me! it was all so surreal. and at 9:04 am, Elena Nicole was born, weighing 4 lb 9 oz and measuring 17 1/2 inches long. i also got to see her over the drape before she was taken to the warmers where the resuscitation teams were waiting. about 10 minutes later, they were bringing in isolettes to transport the girls to the nicu, because they were both put on cpap to help them breathe. my mom left with them headed to the nicu, and to show the rest of my family who was waiting in the waiting room. unfortunately, nobody got to see them really well due to all the tubes and equipment. i managed to make it through the rest of my C/S and to the recovery room, where i was still in a daze. i had my epidural in for 24 hrs so i didnt get to get out of bed and to the nicu til the following day. so on 6/10, i got to hold sadie because she had been taken off the cpap. i still couldnt believe i got to hold her... i really didnt (and still dont) feel like they are my babies. as i read another nicu mom say, i feel like they're not mine, that i just get to visit them. of course i have fallen in love with them and know that they're mine... i'm just anxious to get them home! by the next day, elena was off the cpap and i got to hold her. they are both just gorgeous and they look so different. many of the nurses have commented how alike they look, but as mom, i see so many differences between them. as of today 6/17, both are breathing on their own without any oxygen, sadie is now sleeping in a 'big girl bed' (open crib) and is working on learning to eat and grow. elena is also working on learning to eat and grow, and was dealing with some apnea episodes until yesterday. we are praying that we won't have to worry about those anymore. hopefully within the next couple of days, elena will be able to move into the crib with sadie so they can be roommates again!
