So after being on bedrest because I went into labor at 29 1/2 weeks, my girls decided they couldn't wait any longer and were born Friday February 20th at 31 weeks and 6 days. I started feeling contractions around 9 pm Thursday night and after them being regular for over an hour we called the doctor and he said to to the hospital. So I got there, got hooked up to all the moniters, and when he checked me I was 2 cm dialated! Since I was just 2 days shy of the 32 week mark, he sent me back to the other hospital in case we really couldn't stop them this time. They put me back on the magnisum drip and away I went in the ambulance. We got to the other hospital and I was on the mag for about 6 hours after they decided it wasn't working. This time on the drip I felt every contraction and they keep coming at a regular pace. They explained they were going to take me off the drip and wait and see what I would do before sending me in for my c-section. So I labored all day...I had awful back labor that made me so uncomfortable no matter what I tried to do. Around 3pm that afternoon I hit the proverbial wall and basically became a hysterical person. I had been in labor about 18 hours with no pain medication waiting for the doctors to decide when I was past the point of no return to do my c-section. Anytime I asked for someone who could tell me what was going on a resident would come in and check me and tell me how much I was dialated...and it was a different resident each time, so their measurements varied! Finally the surgeon came to see me and asked why I want to see a doctor and I explained I wanted to know what we were waiting for since it was obvious I was in active labor and why the last time I saw a doctor was at 6am this morning! He said he wanted me 5 cm dialated before he would do the c-section. Thankfully at that point they gave me a shot of morphine to ease the pain and let me rest. I half think they gave it to me to shut me up so I would leave them alone! I slept for almost 2 hours which during my mom arrived from FL. I woke up at 5pm and the surgeon checked me himself and said I was 4 almost 5 and it was time! Around 5:30 I was in the operating room being prepped. My husband was allowed in after I was all set and at 5:54 pm Abigail Leigh was born at 3 lbs 15 oz 17 inches long and at 5:56 Samantha Grace was born 4 lbs even and 17 inches long. My husband was went to see them on the warmers after they were stable and I was allowed to hold them for a minute on the table before they left. My mom even got a peek at them before they went to the NICU. That night Abigal was on CPAP to help her breathing, and Samantha was on a ventilator, but was off it by the next afternoon . I was sent to recovery and eventually to my room. The next day they were both on CPAP by the time I got to the NICU to see them and doing really well. I went home on Monday and they will be there for a few weeks, although no one is 100% sure how long right now. They are both breathing on their own and on formula. I am pumping to try to get my supply going and bringing them whatever I can get. We are waiting on results for a test they ran on Samantha because they detected a heart murmur. The nurses keep stressing though that in most cases they go away on their own and we shouldn't start panicking yet. Over all they are doing very well for practically being 32 weeks. They are amazing and I can't believe I did that! We are with them everyday and can't wait to have them home with us!! As soon as I figure out how to post pics I will try to get some up!

    Congratulations.

Did they ever give you a reason why they would have you labor to 5cm before doing a c-section if you had already planned on having a section? I'm just curious.

Also, I was born with a murmur and it totally went away. I've never had any problems.

Thank you!! The only reason they gave me for waiting til I got to 5 cm was "that was the point of no return." However it was more than obvious that I was progessing in labor that whole day. Because I was one day short of 32 weeks I couldn't deliver at the hospital we planned to with my doctor. That hospital's nursery only takes babies over 32 weeks. At this other hospital with the higher level NICU I was at the mercy of whoever was there that day and the residents. There really is something to be said for having your doctor there, we really like our OB and are very comfortable with him. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the girls are there, they are in excellent hands and everyone in the NICU is wonderful. However, I would have so much preferred my own doctor!
