Hi everyone, I am overjoyed to announce that our twin girls, Sarah
Elisabeth and Catherine Merino, were born at 38 weeks on January 4th
    via scheduled C-section.
Sarah weighed 6 lbs 15 oz and Cate weighed 6 lbs 12 oz, and neither
had any NICU time or other problems, but came home with us
yesterday. When I get a chance I will try to post pictures.

I did learn a few things about C-sections and recovery that I wanted
to pass on, since I was not sure what to expect, although everyone
probably has different experiences. Do not read this if you don't
    want TMI about details!

    1. The surgery was not bad at all, and the pain was manageable. The
day of the operation I was so high on adrenaline (and drugs!) that I
didn't feel any pain, although it was odd and slightly uncomfortable
to feel the pushing and prodding of my OB while she got the babies
out. I was unprepared for the pain and emotional downs of the first
    day after the birth.
    2. The most important lesson was: when they take out the catheter,
go to the bathroom soon!!! I waited much too long to pee, and as a
result, my bladder spasmed and they had to put a catheter back in
while I was in excrutiating pain! It was horrible!
    3. It was humbling not to be able to do anything for myself the
first day after the catheter came out - walking was very hard and
the nurses had to do everything for me (wiping, changing pads, all
that stuff, which made me feel pretty incompetent).
All of that said, I was able to start walking and going to the
bathroom myself pretty quickly, and I feel pretty good now.

I have to go - life with twins at home is crazy!
    Good luck!

Congratulations on the birth of your babies!!!! I hope things are going smoothly. It is always a rough transition to bring babies home, but then to recover from major surgery on top of it all can be even harder!

I do have to echo your sentiments about feeling imcompetent. There is nothing more humbling than having a complete stranger wipe you!!! [IMG] But I suppose that having TWINS is sooooo worth it all!!!!

Congrats on your healthy babies!!!! I hope you are feeling well too. I have heard a lot of things about the catheter. Thanks for posting that information as I have my C-section scheduled for Tuesday the 16th at 38 weeks. Again, CONGRATS!!

Congratulations! What fantastic names: my name just happens to be Sara Catherine [IMG]

I know what you mean about strangers performing those intimate tasks for you. I felt so grateful, though, and so weak. Major abdominal surgery is no joke!

Then you have lactation consultants squeezing your nipples and that about sums it up!

Glad everthing went well though, and I look forward to those pics
