My girls are here! 35 weeks 3 days!

So last Monday, i went in for my twice weekly non-stress test, and as usual my BP was elevated - it had been hovering around 140-150/90s for a week or so now... only this time, I was showing a +2 protein in my urine as well. After a nice reactive NST, the peri and my OB decided based on my ever increasing BP and the increase in protein, that it was time to deliver the girls.

They hadn't shown any signs of having any interest in coming out early, so they scheduled me for a c-section that afternoon! Eep! I hadn't packed a bag, or gotten anything else done! So I called my husband home, and went home to pack a bag so we could get back to the hospital around noon. We were in L&D waiting for surgery to open up - and were initially given a 3:30 (ish) time slot. Unfortunately, there was an emergency, and we were stuck waiting - good thing we brought computers and the hospital has WiFi! I passed the time surfing the internet and chatting with my parents! Finally around 6:30 I was wheeled into the operating room - I didn't realize that DH wouldn't be with me right away, and they actually started the surgery before he arrived, making me a bit nervous that he would miss the first birth!

Because they were less than 36 weeks, both girls were taken right to the NICU while I went to recovery. Despite her small size, Elizabeth had no problems, and was released to my room upstairs 2 days later. Madeline had some respiratory problems - her respirations were a bit too fast and she was struggling for breath. She spent one evening on CPAP (which she hated!) and a few more days on a nasal cannula with oxygen, and then a few more days getting off the feeding tube (which was inserted while she was still having trouble breathing.) Elizabeth and I were discharged November 21 (we would have been cleared to go the 20th, but with Maddie staying, I didn't mind the extra day.) Madeline joined us all at home November 26 - the hospital is fortunately nearby, but it was still tough running back and forth trying to care for them both.
