Hi everyone--so had a bad day yesterday and just feeling like a crappy mom...So my boys are 10 months now and have done really well after spending 10 weeksin the NICU. But of course they both got colds about 2 weeks ago. Well one of my DS started coughing a few days ago--started breathing fast and hard so brought him to the ER last night. Sure enough, they admitted him--says think he has brochiolitis--waiting on to see if RSV...even though they get their Synagis shots. He's not doing horrible and will hopefully be out tomorrow, so I know it coudl be worse. He's just getting some breathing treatments and giving him steroids to hlep open him up, but the docs don't seem worried--so that's good. but still--I can't help but keep thinking the "why us" situation--seems like its one thing after another--severe reflux issues, weight loss, helmet, etc etc. I know I shoudl look at the good--both boys have no major issues, but it's still really hard. And every time I see him breath hard, I remember him being on the ventilator and all the beeps and sounds of the NICU--constantly watching oxygen, etc.!

I guess I'm just writing on here b/c i know some of you know exactly how i am feeling--this is the best outlet! I am blaming myself for them getting the cold and resulting in this. We are trying to be so careful, but at the saem time trying to live a life too!!

And being in the hosptial with one and one at home is so hard!! We don't have family nearby and my friends are helping, but man--this is really difficult! Well, I hope he gets out tomorrow and he is definitely sounding better this evening...so we'll just cross our fingers.

    Thanks for "listening"!

It is definitely not your fault. There is no way to protect a 10 month old baby from every little cold, these things just happen. I'm glad he's doing okay & hope he gets to come home soon!

I am sorry to hear that your little one is not feeling well :(
Don't beat yourself up over it because kids can get sick no matter how hard we try to keep them healthy. Your NOT a bad mom! and they are lucky to have you. I am glad that you have some friends to help you out because it can be soooo stressful having one in the hospital and one at home. I know when only one of my boys was home from NICU it almost drove me nuts going between them. I hope that he recovers quickly and that they stay healthy for the rest of the winter. Hang in there and take care

:grouphug: I'm so sorry one of your boys is in the hospital! You are a good momma for realizing that he was struggling and getting him the help he needed! RSV/Bronchiolitis can be so scary(especially if you have had the NICU trauma prior to it!) so I am glad he is being monitored closely. As hard as it is for you to be away from him, he's in good hands!

Hang in there momma. I hope he is well enough to come home tomorrow. Keep us posted.

Don't beat yourself up. It's not your fault at all! You can't just live life in a bubble. I totally understand how you feel though. My boys weren't as early as your, but did their NICU time and then a month ago they caught H1N1 and developed pneumonia, they were both in the hospital for a week and had to go back on high flow oxygen, continuous monitoring, etc. adn even came home on it all again. It was like starting all over again. Not easy, but they're both better now. So just stay strong for them, it will be over soon.

So just an update--Deven is doing about the same--so they're going to keep another night. He's not on oxygen or an IV, so we hope it stays that way. Just still breathing fast, so they want to make sure this is the peak of it. it's not RSV bronchiolitis, so just another virus caused it--guess thats good --at lesat doens't mean synagis didn't work.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement.

glad to hear its not getting worse. momma! Just try to concentrate on the fact that he's in the best place possible right now even if it does bring back bad memories.

I'm glad to hear he isn't getting worse, but so sorry you have to stay another night. At least you know he is being watched and maybe you can get some sleep (in that nice comfy chair :)) Hope you get to all go home tomorrow! :youcandoit:

FWIW: I cried reading your post. I can't imagine the roller coaster of a first year you have been on! Big hugs Momma!

Big  to all of you! We had to take Andy to the ER after he had only been home from the NICU for a week. After 8 long weeks in the NICU, we were right back at the same hospital with my little bear due to severe constipation issues. It was a long, horrible night full of poking and prodding my little 9 week old baby. One small comfort to that night was that my little Will was only 2 floors away from us for the night (he was still in the NICU for another 2 weeks). I hope to never return to an ER with either of my babies again.

We've been getting over some pretty bad colds here, too. They just got their 3rd round of Synagis shots this past week. I was worried that the colds were RSV because they would get sooo congested. We took them to the pedi a couple of weeks ago and he said it was just your common cold. After 2 solid weeks of snot, constant coughing, puking due to snotty coughs and general poopiness, they're finally getting better. No puking today, woohoo!

I hope Deven comes home and gets better soon. Keep us posted.

We are home!! yay!! He's doing much better, still a bit of wheezing, but breathing alot more regular. So we have a nebulizer for home use and will just continue with that. It's nice to have him home---we've had too many days in the hosptial this year (before their 10 week stay, I was in the hospital for 6 weeks on bed rest starting January 2nd!)!! We are ready for the new year!!!

Thanks again to all of you for your support!
