We had parent/teacher conferences tonight and got report cards. The kids are pretty much excelling at everything and above what is expected at most everything. She is thinking about having Sarah and maybe Timothy taking the AR tests (the reward for AR tests is extra recesses). She also gave us access to some math computer games that they'll be using later in class that Timothy should love.

The only thing that came up as needing work is Timothy and fine motor skills, but we knew that. He has never liked coloring or writing. He does like drawing. They've been in art class for over a year and his drawings are greatly improved. His coloring has also improved, but it's still not great. His hand-writing is still needing work also. But I definitely think he's coming along, and I shudder to think where he would have been without his art classes.

Marissa, that's great! :) Our son loves doing AR and while he was already an avid reader, it's just pushed him above and beyond. I hope they enjoy it!

AR tests at our school, are reading comprehension tests that are given on computer. After Sarah would read a book, she would go take that test for that book. Our school has extra recess sessions for kids doing those. It's at the individual teachers discretion as to how many tests for the extra recess.

Way to go Sarah!!  That's wonderful and you should be very proud!

My kids like the AR tests, too. However, it's the girls that do, so we'll see how what the boys all do when they get there

That's awesome! AR sounds pretty neat. The girls don't have AR in school, they do these 2 programs called Making Meaning an Kid Biz. Where they have to read a story (this is all done on the computer at school) and then answer questions. What's great about it, is that every kid reads the same story, but it is tailored to each childs level. This way all kids get to discuss the story in class, but those who read and comprehend at a higher level, can have the stories with a more details or whatever. Brooke and 1 other child in her class got to be helper to the teacher because their scores were way above average. I like these programs that schools have now. It is all so different than when we went!
